Q & A With Bruce Lakefield

Separately, US Airways last proposal to ALPA included the EMB-190/195 to be operated at MDA and the CRJ-900 at PSA,respectively.

Do you know if the 700 and 900 same type rating?

thanks,

Don't have a cow. Pretty clear that he means "other ways" as Sec 1113 vs negotiation. They've said before many times that they can squeeze another $700 million from non-employee sources and expect to have that entirely in place by 2007.

I am just trying to do the best job I can with the resources I have to get this airline at least to break even. If our employees came to the table and negotiated savings we needed, we could be there and wouldn't have to look at other ways to save money.

WHAT? Is he serious? Are they NOT looking at other ways to save money other than from the employees?

They do. The main difference between the 700 and 900 is length. Bombardier even changed the production of the 700 to use 900 components wherever appropriate (originally the 900 had a stronger wing construction).

"Many jobs in Pittsburgh would not have to be cut, for example in Rez or Maintenance, with a competitive cost structure. Without a competitive cost structure there will be more furloughs and facility closures, than otherwise would have been necessary."

Seems like you're a little confused here.

Are you saying that with a competitive cost structure we can keep unnecessary jobs and facilities? Wouldn't that be counter-productive?

Or are you saying that cutting needed jobs and facilities will help achieve a competitive cost structure. Wouldn't that be counter-productive?

Seems to me that any job cuts and facility closures should make sense in the context of whatever today's plan is.

Jim
