PIEDMONT (Merged Threads)

I was only 14
If you didn't experience it, you'd probably never understand. But try to imagine.....

Working for an airline ranked second in a survey of frequent fliers......without being listed as a choice. How has US ranked lately?

Getting a crisp $100 bill for a Christmas bonus. What did US give last Christmas?

Growing about 25% a year and making record profits each year while doing it. US is slowly shrinking in an attempt to keep yields up.

Get over it, I do believe they merge with Usair in 1989, I was only 14 that is a real kids age, on the other hand, if you talk to me about standards, like having good looking flight attendants, and well groom guys, i will understand certain stuff about working for PIEDMONT but look at the piedmont flight attendants, now............no more to tell

Do you really need to start another thread in response to a reply made in another thread with the same topic that you started???

Even in 1989, after the merger , USAIR had hot breakfast on the LGA/PIT flights. snack boxes LGA to ROC/BUF and SYR! LGA/BWI had breakfast in first (cereal)Even LGA/PHL was deemed EXPRESS BEV SVC for the 20 min flight where flight attendants rushed through down the aisle with cups of OJ,or water! Needless to say short hauls flights in first class (LGA/ALB) had GLASSWARE and a FULL BEV SVC ! Dont forget the hot towel svc. in FIRST! HOW THE SERVICE HAS CHANGED! I have heard the numbers as in over a million dollars a year saved getting rid of olives, but a simple thing such as Express Beverage service or a second trip with the beverage cart down the aisle means alot to the customer. At least an inflight entertainment system at each seat would go a long way even if you did away with all other inflight amenities on short to medium haul flights alone!

Wow, you did that?

I do not, I repeat, DO NOT miss 32R.
We triple-catered the trays in the tailcone of the 9. Never got above 10,000 feet, but dang it was noisy back there when we opened the door.

<SNIP> Piedmont was a wonderful airline and has a long history, there's plenty of websites to explore and LEARN FROM.
Anecdotal stories, Piedmont was a “Good-ol-boyâ€￾ operation. For FAs, the scheduling was a mess.

The customers miss it, though.

The original Piedmont Airlines was a successful, classy, and well run operation that was well liked by it's employee's and by it's customers just like the original PSA. Piedmont's success, reputation, and it's value is what made it a target for consumption by USAir. When AWA and US Airways merged, Doug Parker said that they mulled changing the name of the combined airline to Piedmont Airlines because of it's outstanding reputation in the industry and with the flying public. It was decided that it would not be cost effective to do so.

Piedmont Airlines did not go out of business like Eastern or PanAm. Piedmont Airlines was aquired so that USAir could exterminate the competition. We should all be respectful of those who have helped us get this far. The dedicated folks from the original Piedmont Airlines had the fortitude and backbone to hold this company together when it seemed no one else cared. I, for one, feel confident and safe traveling on an aircraft with a seasoned and well experienced Piedmont pilot at the helm who can confidently and safely pilot and land an aircraft in any kind of weather versus one that cannot land the plane simply because the clouds are too low ( no offence, it's a personal comfort and safety issue).

I never worked for the original Piedmont Airlines, but I still show respect when they want to regale the glory days of Piedmont and the golden age of aviation. I feel they deserve that.

It was Dave Siegel who considered changing the name to Piedmont, not Doug Parker or AWA.

" Doug Parker said that they mulled changing the name of the combined airline to Piedmont Airlines"

Did not realize I implied it was Doug or AWA. Doug Parker did tell us "they" considered changing the name of the combined airline to Piedmont. Who "they" are was not reveled to us by Doug, I'm just repeating what he said. Some of the AWA agents who came to CLT to do TDY said they were hoping the name would stay the same (AWA). They were proud of their airline and wanted the name to remain. I understand and appreciate loyalty.

I was just making reference to the fact it was considered during the merger process. Due to the costs of re-branding, the idea was 86'ed. I'm happy that "they" decided not to go through with it. Version 2.0 is seldom as good as the original.
