I'm sick of hearing the PAX complain that there are not enough power outlets and that someone needs to install them kind of like "up in the las veags airport "

By far this is the NUMBER ONE complaint i hear day in day out , week after week , month after month ....

perhaps someone can do something about this ? you know if we installed charging outlets like up in LAS we could put some LCD screens infront of them and advertise our selves , or at the least we could show some sort of advertising , maybe enough to pay for the power usage ...

Good point, although I am sure thats something else they will sell to the flying public!

I've noticed that whenever possible US Airways front line staff will blame the "Airport Authority".

Arrival/Departure screens incorrect? Airport Authority!
Not enough Outlets? Airport authority!

Been awhile since I've been through Skunk Harbor but I seem to recall that WN added power to their gates for business and leisure travelers. Of course the difference would be the WN cares about their customers as opposed to the Flying Trailer Park.

Wonder how WN got them installed? OH Wait they asked the "Airport Authority if they could and now here's the kicker, WN most likely paid guess who? The Airport Authority, who paid the contractor.

More BS from Tempe.

My complaint about about the PHX airport is having two "A" concourses and two "B" concourses.

Is it too much to ask to rename them A, B, C, and D to make it easier to find your gate?

Is there alphabet shortage in Arizona?

I am truly impressed at how the CEO who can excuse and deflect seemingly anything, has managed to promote his management style throughout his corporation.

Most any simple operational screw up inevitably wastes at least a half an hour until all finger-pointing exercises are exhausted.

Previously, in the east, I was used to, solution first, then blame, much later, if at all.

Now it is blame first, then solution, almost always resulting in late departures, etc. and so on. Like blaming the smoke and fume events on union negotiations. Corrupt management is more likely.

A symptom of this is a reluctance for an employee to reach out and get things changed for the better. Had "Freedom" worked for a SW type operation, he would have been encouraged to talk with the airport authority, even to carving out a bit of income for themselves. Heck, if I lived anywhere close to PHX I'd be on that. For myself.

I expect that things will not change until the employees get pissed enough to do something. The more the merrier.

Now where can a ramp agent be spending so much time to hear so many complaints about the lack of power outlets in the boarding areas of the terminal?

There is C and D labeled concourses already in use in that same terminal...

well if you must know , i get to work early everyday due to our wonderfull point system , so i try to find a quite place to read for awhile before i start my shift ... it doesn't matter where you sit upstairs thou , people are alaways prowling for a working power outlet ... i'd say that at least 25% of the city sockets upstairs don't work , maybe more ...i'm sure the city is aware of this as the cleaners proably mention this to someone ...thing is if we're paying rent for the facility and that includes the power outlets and the power , someone should at least make sure their in working order ... that's the very LEAST we could do .

If you like that, you should check out the terminal numbering

The airport has over 120 aircraft gates in three Terminals (2, 3, 4). The airport administration states that the designation Terminal 1 has been "retired", and that it did not wish to renumber the other terminals since passengers were already familiar with the numbers in place. - Wikipedia

Just give LAS our flights back. Problem solved.

The City of Phoenix operates the airport, so it would be up to them. In LAS, if I am thinking of what you're refering to, the charging stations are a vendor. I would imagine that US could do the same thing at PHX, however the City would likely charge them a LOT and US likely wouldn't want to get into what it essentially a sideline business. It would also likely (guessing, don't have any real numbers) that the cost would be obscene when looking at it as a free passenger amenity. I wouldn't do it were I in CHQ.

Now where can a ramp agent be spending so much time to hear so many complaints about the lack of power outlets in the boarding areas of the terminal?

Hmmm... Good question. There was a lot of peeps in LAS that did that. Spent their whole shifts in the D gates where we have no flights.

But of course, this is pure speculation?

But of course, this is pure speculation?

Yes it is! However it is speculation based upon some knowledge of how Airport Authorities work.

Classic example is PHL. The Authority there has over the years spent a great deal of money upgrading the cosmetics of the facility which has earned them some pretty high marks in certain surveys.

Meanwhile, those of us "In the know" have a very different reality. Especially those who work below the wing. A few years back, US wanted to upgrade the baggage handling equipment. As long as US paid the airport authority was very willing to give the go ahead.

The point to the above is that with US & WN smashing it out in PHX for supremacy I'd think the airport would be open to any improvements the airlines want to make in order to attract more customers as the Authority then makes more money.

This would be logical, of course we are talking PHX & US here so who knows.

Nah, it would be easier to just close the PHX hub.

Back when I worked for US Airways I asked the station manager about adding power outlets to the gate areas. His comment was the following " We are not going to cater to individuals for things like that, there are plenty of outlets for the cleaners so passengers can just use them.

Over at SOUTHWEST Airlines most gate areas has lounge chairs with a table between them that has both OUTLETS for 110V and USB. Parallel to all the gate areas are counter height white areas with 110v below about 10-12 at each gate for passengers. You can always see someone sitting there with their laptop and cell phone plugged in working or just surfing.
