Next month, more than 200 PHL f/a's will be returning to RSV status. :( Which means my average monthly flying 40 hours per month will be reduced to maybe 20. We should not have to sit on quick call everyday to make time and lose our well-being to this job. Call the union! Call Flores! Particiapte in the upcoming pickets!! We've already lost tremendously with the 24/7 FAR and our ability to use ETB. Time to stop complaining without acting!!! The only way to get things changed is to be heard!!

What was the outcome of incorporating the 24/7 ruling into the work rules? The 24/7 E-line update #3 (early October) showed letters sent to Cindi Simone (Director of Labor Relations Inflight) and to Captain Ed Bular(VP Flight Ops and Inflight, Al Hemenway(VP Labor Relations) and Clare Burt (Manager Collective Bargaining-AFA)from Mike Flores. These letters appeared to offer some solutions that could increase flight time for reserves etc. Interesting reading. Anyone know the status of the talks? I'd love to dump LTO. Now would be the time to redo our mess of a reserve system.

I don't know if this is the entire problem, but I see at least several blockholders putting their blocktrips out, a confederate takes the trip, puts it out again as an ETB trip with a giant heads up to the original blockholder, who then picks up their own trip as an ETB trip, that goes on top of their guarantee.

One of the biggest abusers used to be the Council 41 President.

Since Flores preceives that she is one of the two presidents keeping himself in office, I doubt you will get much more than lip service from him.

It would be far better, IMHO, to set up a web page that all res FAs can organize from, publish problem areas and disperse solutions to all. Tag it onto the recalllaura website. Make it work. Formulate a plan and make the union set up a pay cap, especially for the non-productive elements of your union, those who "work from home", etc. That way, instead of a few FAs getting paid 160 to 200 hours per month, you could get more than a few FAs off reserve.

Cap everyone at 100 hours, or whatever. Make everyone feel the pain.

The power is there. All it takes is for you is to reach out and make it your own.

Wow! I'm guessing this is due to the seasonal flights dropping off. I think our entire reserve system needs to change. Don't forget that the 24/7 rule is a FAR and has nothing to do with the ETB. I don't think reserves should have to work any off days just to make a living wage. Yes we as reserves need to come together and ask why we have to give 30 to 31 days a month to the company to pay our bills?

Let's not forget that the union and the company let this happen. It is sad to think that noone in the union, since I have been here(1989), has ever questioned why a RSV f/a could be on duty 12 straight days, when pilots have always had to have the 24/7. There has never been a difference between a pilot "on duty" and a f/s "on duty". Try to figure up how many days we are owed since this has been going on. Today, one of my freinds, who happens to be a BH, asked me if I was mad that some f/a's had brought this to the attention of the FAA. I said "Hell No". It's a freakin FAR. Maybe if this FAR had been followed, we might not have this LTO system. And where the hell is pref. Bid?

If the problem is too many F/As chasing too few hours, seems like the only real solution to the problem is to have another round of layoffs.

Is that really what you want?

It's pathetic also, after this was brought up to our LECP, she ignored it, that a line rsv f/s had to go to the FAA about this. We were told, it might mess things up. Again, this was an FAR.

Are you referring to the current Local 41 President? If you are, that is a man not a woman. If you are not referring to the current, then I am not following you because the current LECP has been in office since before we implemented the ETB, so there wouldn't be anyone prior to him who could have had the opportunity to do what you have implied.

So true!! I bet that the ETB would have never been put in place had the 24/7 rule already been enforced. I'm sure the union would have had to find another way for blockholder to be able to drop trips. The union has never had the reserves in mind when negotiating with the company. It is time for a change! No one should have to sit reserve as long as we do!

He's just writing what he's told to write by the PHL LECVP, you cant expect hard facts.

No, the problem is that East feels that it needs roughly 20% of open time. That time needs to and MUST be translated into additional lines. I'm not saying I want to be a blockholder tomorrow, I just feel that PIT should not have 20+ year reserves, or CLT having 13+ year reserves.

Another round of layoffs is not the answer. IF West can operate on 8-10% reserve, why can't we. I don't want to be greedy, that's not where I'm coming from at all...but we have WAY TOO MANY CAREER RESERVES!!!!!!!! That's all

I don't know, I mean I'm really hocked about alot of things including this RSV system but I think that if we have some other kind of meltdown around the holidays we are just going to screw ourselves and EVERYBODY including the public is going to hate us and we will not get the support from them that we are going to need in the not so distant future. I can see what you are saying but I think we need to really be careful about burning bridges right now.

   Hula fly guy/girl and you have the hard facts from the LEC soon to be EX of Council 70? The reserves have been abused and when the party line is "you should be Happy to have a Job" the Reserves and all employees should be concerned. If there was ever a shread of sympathy for their lives it never came from LA. Prove me wrong and get back into your mu-mu it covers up your sniper attacks and self preservation. All you care about is yourself get a Title and you really think your somebody.
