Nwa New Talks With Mechanics Begin Thusday

Good example. I was told to service the IDG on an A-320. I have never serviced the IDG on an A-320. I walked around the engines looking for a hatch to service the unit. I couldn't find one so I opened all the panels. No luck. I then opened the fan cowl and guess what? There on the right hand side at about 5 o’clock lays the service port for the IDG complete with little sight glass. I knew it was there somewhere. I serviced the unit and closed up the cowl it just took a little commonsense to find it. I did the job between 15 and 20 minutes not two years. Why didn’t they put a hatch there?

Bob you are correct but I don't think all the good ones will leave. I hope that a lot of mechanics do leave though. This will increase the demand of the good mechanics thus elevating their pay.

Well now we know why you wont post your name here. You are accomplishing unfamiliar tasks through trial and error instead of using the maintenance manual.

Nice to see how the safety of NWAs aircraft is being compromized by people trying to do things that they dont know how to do in 15 to 20 minutes instead of referring to the maintenance manual.

There is a little more to it than just pumping in fluid to the line on the sight glass. If you went to the manual you would know that.

Very, very good PTO, I'm sure we are all proud of you!!! Have you learned to service the hydro yet? If you can do that, all by yourself, then you are indeed a big boy!!! Do you know there are manuals for learning?

BTW, who "told" you to service the IDGs? And why did they require service? I know you found the IDG all by yourself, and thats very good, however I wonder why you were "told" to service it?

Maybe he only knows how to tell time on a digital clock.

WN I have repeatedly said that an aircraft as a whole is a complicated piece of equipment. All the mechanics I know are aware of the implications if they don't do something correct. That is why we do our jobs with the utmost of attention no matter what we work on. I’m not compromising safety by comparing an aircraft to a ground locked piece of equipment I’m just saying that aircraft are not some kind of beyond comprehension technology like you would lead people to believe.

PTO...For the safety of the innocent people flying NW I hope the stupidity you display on this board is only an act. One would think NW would have at least sent their brightest bulb here but then again we all know what NW'S intelligence level.

Let me make this simple for you WN. Lets take a look at your everyday Genie manlift. What is on that lift that does not apply in some form or fasion to an aircraft?

For us here at WN, it's 137+ passengers and around 40K Feet.

The rt engine IDG is inop for whatever reason and they are keeping a close eye on the left one.

The right engine idg was inop because some scab was using the servicing port in the 5 o'clock position on the right hand side. See previous post concerning your intelligence PTO.

In the meantime you just posted how you serviced an IDG without knowing what you were doing or where it was. Instead of going around opening up every panel YOU SHOULD HAVE GONE TO THE MAINTENANCE MANUAL!!!!

Your admission of failure to utilize the maintenance manual demonstates that you do not do your jobs with the utmost attention but are instead driven by expedience instead of safety.
