no ties for f/a's

The only thing that damn tie is good for is a bomb stack. LOL. The slobs need to be weeded out and told to shape up. If your grown and don't know how to keep yourself groomed ya have issues deeper than not knowing how to iron. On one hand we hear that it's public transportation and we have changed over the years to mass transit in the air, yet we still want to look like gals of yesteryears. I don't need to look nostalgic and have a 70's tie to look professional. If the aviator shirt is pressed and looks crisp, who is to say "it wasn't meant to be worn that way". Says who? THAT is an opinion. I know it has been said before and I know he doesn't serve food/drinks but our own CEO doesn't even wear a damn tie. The concorde doesn't fly anymore either. It is what it is. Just no sneakers and shorts. lol where's the picnic?

I totally agree with you. The problem on this board is no one respects other people's opinions. If it doesn't agree with them, then it is wrong, ridiculous, stupid , etc. Everyone should be allowed to have their opinion without attacks.

as a 20 year HP FA, I have to say that the no tie option works better with the customer when it's done with the aviator shirt. Very seldom do I hear, "Excuse me, do you work here?" When we had the Phx Suns promotion days, they did not know who was a Flight Attendant. It has to be a shirt that easily recognized as a cabin crew memeber.

Exactly. There has to be something about the uniform that makes you stand out from the passengers. If your in a plain white button down shirt and no tie or hell with a tie for that matter you could be any passenger on the plane. The aviator shirt ironed properly and CLEAN can look just fine until the new option arrives. Now this is my opinion again it's only an opinion. When I look up anything in regards to aviator shirt....it says nothing about a tie being mandatory. It's not a fashion don't as far as anything I have seen. Ya want some uniform dont's? How about the yellow stained pits on shirts, no undershirt, white pantyhoes with the blue uniform, dolly shoes, slippers working the cart, guys that wear pants like Fred Mertz, women with shirts unbuttoned waaaay to far, floods, pants so shiny you could do your makeup in them like a mirror, banana clips/scrunchies, women stuffed into heels that look like they are baking bread, pants that are waaaay to tight and you know where I'm going with that! Class A Naste'...good heavens, we could go on an on.... For those that don't like the idea of "no tie" for heavens sake WEAR YOURS THEN. I'll even leave mine in your mailbox for ya. Want the old pink striped one? LOL

Fred Mertz...I love it  . If everyone just looked clean and professional I wouldn't mind at all on not having a tie but that's just not the case. Life would be perfect!

Y'all, I realize this is pretty much a dead horse, but I had to add my two cents about something I really noticed this past trip:
Jackets are now optional for the season, and so are ties. Obviously, for reasons relating to temperature/comfort.
Whats up with going tieless, but wearing the jacket?
I so don't get that.

Have they made clip-ons available, or would I still have to acquire them through alternate sources.

Easties have them...don't know about Westies. They are cheap as you can see the clip.

Going out on a 4 day tomorrow and going tieless. I'll report if I felt naked, comfortable, or liberated. How Jane Fonda I'm feeling.

It will be nice to go tieless on those "hot days" especially when flying on "Satan's Chariot" (737-300)! But for now, I'll keep the tie going a little longer....it was more fun when we could revolt on our own and not wear them B) ....now it's kind of anti-climactic. Whoopee!

Well, whadaya know. I tried to buy some clip-ons a few years back and was told they were for pilots only. So I gave a F/O a few twenties and told him to get as many as he could for me.

I can’t tie a decent knot for anything.

How Jane Fonda I'm feeling.
Gonna burn it?

DAY 1..NO TIE...felt a little naked as there was big debate in crew room about tie vs. no tie..those wearing saying they felt "professional". I stayed out of it. Boarded a/c...took 5 minutes and glad the tie is gone. In TPA..LAS tomorrow...hot, hot, hot!!. My neck feels FREE of the razor burn due to the constant sweat from the nooze around my head..No dangling tie, no negative comments. It's all in everyone's mind. Nobody gives a rat's ass if you wear it or not. As usual, I was pressed with a clean undershirt on. Those that looked sloopy tieless in the crewroom were the same ones that look equally sloppy WITH a tie. If you think the tie will make you more professional, then wear the GD tie. My neck thanks the powers that be.

FREE AT LAST, FREE AT LAST, THANK GOD ALMIGHTY, MY NECK IS FREE AT LAST!!

Boy, that felt good!! :D

Gonna burn it?

No, Have to start wearing it in Nov. Cute pic.

From the West forum:

[" Hello All,

Below are a some of the comments that we have received in abundance today regarding the Tie-less option.

Thought this would help show that we are all trying to work together as on cohesive company and make the cultural integration go more smoothly.

Thank you very much for including US Airways west f/a for the freedom of neckware on our uniforms. I'm looking forward to the new changes in our uniforms that will help all f/s feels good about themselves when they walk into the airport and represent the new US Airways. Your actions is greatly appreciated by me. East Flight Attendant

Thanks soooooooooo much Bob for your continued effort to get us the tie-less option. I finally got my new white shirts in and have been in misery with that top button! - West FA

I usually wear the old dress, but I hate seeing my co-workers look so uncomfortable. You guys are AWESOME! West FA

Thank you for ridding of us the tie tabs for the summer. Much appreciated! -East Flight Attendant

Someone is listening and/or wearing our uniform and understands that shirts buttoned to the top are often uncomfortable. I have only worn my dress since the shirts rub my neck which results in a rash. Now we can wear our shirts without using the top button or tie, I have a whole new uniform attitude! It's hot during the summer and that helps keep us cool. Thanks for using good common sense! Sincerely,PHL FA

Thank you for including us (East-based) in your seasonal neckwear optional

Job well done. Thanks for taking the company to task with this one and making it happen.-West FA
Thanks you for your efforts in making the ties optional for the summer. I promise that I will not disappoint you.

Thank you to ever it was that was able to get the company to let us go unbuttoned; even if only for the warm months (we can hope that this will turn into a year round policy, at least until we are able to get new uniforms). I am an East U S Airways F/A and I can say I have not worn my skirt for many years because I HATE the tab on our shirts. Now that I can legally go without my tab I can now get good use of my skirts and shirts. So again thank you for looking out for the East as well.I am looking forward to getting totally new uniforms so keep up the good work and please make it quick. We need a new look. Happy flying and best wishes to all West and East. I hope ya’ll have a great summer. -CLT FA

Negative Feedback

Hello, I am sorry this change has been implemented. It looks sloppy and everyone takes it too far- 2 or more buttons undone. I am disappointed that we believe it is proper to look as messy as our patrons. So No thanks for this degradation of our professionalism. I know you try to make everyone happy, but this is not the answer. We should have shirts that are tailored to be open collared. East Flight Attendant

I think that we should wear a tie to work. We get no respect from the movie industry, comedians and now a lot of us will show up in a wrinkled shirt and no tie. We should look like professionals. What next? Sneakers. I am 100% against this decision.-East FA

Please check out The Delta Uniform that premiered yesterday.. No open shirt . It has a Tie and they look like a airline not a circus group.
A good amount of us look good in the uniform and now without the tie it just adds for more sloppy ness among the men. No gratitude here...Now you will really see the group look like slobs...The type of shirt that we have should have a tie,,,...Especially for international and now to see some with ties being worn and some with out ties on the same flight makes it look sloppy to the passengers.. The company has not monitored the uniform dress code for a long time and now just makes it look worse to passengers because the male f/a without ties look like slobs.. Unless it is a button down shirt it look terrible..- East FA

I've proudly worn my professional attire for 25 years at US Airways. Our professional appearance is often a great advantage when interacting with and controlling our frustrated business customers or unruly foreign students on holiday. This is especially true on long trans Atlantic flights where we are the only symbol of authority for 8 to 11 hours. I, for one, do not welcome this change as it further diminishes our appearance as skilled professionals. Our appearance is the first thing the customer sees. How will we rank in their minds when we stand next to an Air France, British Airways or Lufthansa Crew.
No thanks here.-PHL FA

I think the uniform looks even worse without a tie...especially for men. How much more unprofessional and embarrassing can our uniform regulations get? I can understand not having to wear a tie if we had a shirt that was made to be worn without a tie, i.e. a polo shirt. I think this option will make the flight attendant group look even more sloppy...hard to believe that could be possible. What's next, the bare leg look, because nobody wants to wear panty hose? Nothing surprises me - DCA FA

I guess you've seen the (East) men without ties....? It looks so,so sloppy. I guess if that is the look we are shooting for. I personally think the (unprofessional) look is a real shame (and an embarrassment) to the company.
Thanks for allowing me to express my opinion. -CLT FA
PS Please don't let me get started on Pilots without hats. That look has been recognizable since we were all small children. It's a must in my book. "]

FWIW, I have continued to wear my tie, (the little waterfall female tie w/the aviator shirt) but have shed my sleevless jacket. (I don't own a long-sleeved blazer)
However, its still only in the 90s in PHX.
If I find myself on an a/c w/an inop APU, or in a city w/humidity, you can be sure I will shed the tie at the first sign I am feeling the heat.
The aviator shirts totally suck, and as it is, I have to leave the top button undone under the tie.

As I mentioned on another post, I just don't get the look when FAs wear the jacket, but no tie.
