New Look at Turboprops

Yes it does but in the same breath the mainline CBA "ALLOWS" a contract carrier (which takes jobs from US) to fly 85+seat JETS? It is the most RIDICULOUS thing I have ever heard. If they gave the company power to allow contract carriers to fly jets with that many seats why on earth would they not allow PI or PSA to fly bigger props. Did this happen in BK? THIS was an issue WAAAAAAY before nic award correct?

Shhhh, you don't want to start down that road. There is a very good reason why mainline pilots don't fly turboprops!!!

AWA320,

What is that good reason? Personally, if they paid me as much or more money, Id fly a King Air with the mainline name. So long as they maintain a minimum number of larger airframes. And I think thats what you are talking about. Not allowing Tempe to reduce us to a regional carrier. Correct?

Remember two examples of mainline T-prop flying:
- Hawaiian Air's Dash 7 ops in the interisland division.

and our very own

- America West started its own Dash 8 mainline op as well.

Cheers,
IW

Bingo!

A turbofan is nothing more than a turboprop with a fixed pitch, shrouded fan.

It is the company that has always promoted the difference. Frankly, I could care less as long as the money is commensurate with DOH, a concept some here seem to have a problem with.

The vast majority of wholly owned pilots would prefer these "large turboprops" and regional jets, for that matter, be operated on the mainline certificate where they belong.

This would also save the corporation money by scaling down duplicitous management at the myriad of express variants.

Simply put, you can have all of these airframes. None of us got into this business with the idea of being regional "lifers"

Good luck to you.

The "Vast Majority" of wholly owned pilots? Who do you work for Mesa..Republic? I doubt you will hear many wholly owned pilots would prefer the "large turboprops" and RJs be put on the mainline certificate. Most "wholly owned pilots," as you put it, just want new equipment to replace an aging fleet.

well I know i'm not the majority but i would rather be a capt on a Q400 than an fo on the 73 and as it's prob as efficient per pax as the 190's then what would be the prob?
P.S. why doesnt the spell check work on these posts?

I think you're missing the point. I believe he's implying that the WO pilots would prefer that they, along with the large turboprops, were on the mainline certificate. Nobody should be flying a Dash or RJ after 20 years with the company.

Try downloading Mozilla firefox. The spell check works quite well and it's a better browser than IE.

The spell check is part of Firefox, but you may need to turn it on. Look under "Options/Advanced/General" in the Tools menu.

Is Firefox a jet or does it have props??

Just kidding.........

Back to the subject at hand, although I would be happy to split this off if you want to keep talking about browsers.
