"new Brand Idea"

article

American Airlines Inc. launched its first major branding campaign in more than a decade Thursday, looking to soften and modernize its image with the tagline "We know why you fly."

The 18-month television, radio, print and Internet campaign is designed to highlight American's nearly eight decades of experience, as well as the extensive network of the world's largest carrier.

What a completely dumb advertising campaign.

Next to Engine and Way of Life (early 2002), these ads rate a C- at best.

Yup, you're right on that, Jim, but delays at the ticket counter and security lines are causing many to consider that, too.

Thread drift: Since the cost of a rental car is part of the calculation whether to drive or fly for so many, I often wonder why an airline doesn't negotiate favorable rental car rates for its passengers with a few companies.

You guys stay focused there at AA, you got a great product that is Known the world over. You can't hurt with advertising, sometimes a new gimick is all it takes.

Take UniTED for instance! They think a new LCC TED (AKA United Shuttle) and a new paint job has transformed UAL into a totally new and zippy company. It's still the same old UAL, nothing different but a paint job.

You at AA will be the ultimate winners of this industrys downsizing. Keep the customers happy and Kudos to the ones I know at AA.

Received a DVD from AA today with the new commercials. Overall I think the new commercials are impressive! Its nice to see AA putting something fresh out there and the timing couldn't be better either!!
