John John:
question is are the express carriers who get paid on completion factor still getting paid for USAirways requiring them to cancel flights"

ME:
don't think you are making any real sense . Isn't it weather condidtions requiring them to cancel? Are we to believe that express which seems to cancel flights over light rain/ fog on any given day would suddenly be able to overcome severe weather conditions ? You're funny.

You think the fee for departure contract carriers will not get one cent for the per cancellations of there flights by USAirways
The completion factor is how they get paid. Contract carriers are know to operate 6 hours late with zero passengers just to get paid. I don’t know what world you live in. if it’s businesses as usual at the contract carriers a deal will possibly be cut for the pre cancellations of contract carrier by the parties involved. I hope your are right and they got paid ZIP…USAirways should do that more often
You better believe fee for departure contract carriers that get paid for completion of their flights protect there flying. And I don’t think is funny that the contact carriers are sucking US dry

Local news just updated Philly's estimated snowfall to 24". Says it will win the 'Snow Bowl', compared to other NE big cities, with most snow this season. I'm guessing there's areas nearby that are getting even more.

And DC is suspending plowing city streets. Too dangerous, they say.

Washington, D.C., and neighboring Montgomery County, Md., may have just lived up to its reputation as "wimpy" weather warriors -- suspending snow plow operations as a blizzard bears down on the region.

Or maybe not.

The National Weather Service on Wednesday used the phrases "extremely dangerous" and "life-threatening blizzard" to describe conditions in Baltimore and Washington, which have both set records this week for the snowiest seasons ever. Wind gusts have reached as high as 60 miles per hour as the blizzard passed through the region.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the nation, frost in SoCal is causing deicing delays it was so cold in Burbank* that passengers at Bob Hope Airport waiting for a 7 a.m. Southwest Airlines flight to Oakland were told they would have to wait until ice on the plane's wings melted.

"Folks, there will be a delay," an airline worker said over the intercom. "There's ice on the wings, and as this is Southern California, there is no de-icing equipment. We will have to wait for the sun to come up to warm the wings."

Know what you mean John John, as you can see my response has totally disappeared off the thread you quoted from, and any other responses related to mine. My hunches were correct. I feel very sad that there will not be any mention of what US is doing to the PIT workers right now.

Just talked with a DCA agent, management there issued attendance points for people who missed work last weekend due to the storm. (Not that there were any flights to work). He told me that people are being charged two points for "absence other than illness". This as the Federal government has been pretty much shut down since Friday and many suburban streets in VA and MD remain unplowed. The CWA stewards in DCA are going to be pretty busy with grievances. Glad to know that the company will penalize customer service folks even as the nation's capital is paralyzed by some of the worst winter weather on the books.

Rumor has it that the company put some agents up in hotels Friday night. Great except the hotel shuttle did not run Saturday AM!

The National News, I can't remember which channel, has reported that this storm is the worst in recorded history for the DC area. It brings home the true nature of management from a great distance. The weather in Tempe is fair with mostly clear skies and very moderate temperatures.

This management is now has an airline with 2/3 of its operations subject to winter storms. It is not an outlier or a statistical anomaly, it is a fact of life in the East. This company is just now coming to grips with this idea that weather will periodically ruin their spread sheets.

The first reaction will be to blame the employees. When they realize that the employees can't get to work by car or bus or any other way they will then realize that the actually have to manage the airline.

This just proves how bad this management sucks. I wish I could say what I really want to right now. It's your safety first. Tell them where to go

Things are still messy in the NE. Just had a look at flightstats.com - lots of cancellations still.

7:01 a.m. Dulles reopens at 6 a.m., but uncertainty at Reagan National
Washington Dulles International Airport reopened at 6 a.m. Thursday for flight operations, an airports authority spokeswoman said. Reagan National Airport remained closed, but could open later in the day. Both those airports, along with Baltimore Washington International Airport, are advising travelers to check with their airlines before leaving home to catch their flights.

At Philadelphia International Airport, all commercial flights were canceled. Airport crews were working "nonstop on snow removal in preparation for airlines' resuming operations as early as Thursday morning," an airport spokeswoman said.

Southwest Airlines Co., Philadelphia's second-busiest carrier, canceled morning flights for today, and US Airways will have limited arrivals and departures in the morning.

Take a look at some of the stories about road conditions and the problems for transit. Yet the ACP points are flying, if the flights are not.
