I know this may seem trivial in light of all that has been transpiring on these boards of late, but have I got something to share. I went out for a few cocktails this evening with a friend to a local Bar that I have gone to for years in my home town. Usually my drink is set on a coaster. Well, I reached over to get a napkin to write some info on and I looked down and there was our USAIRWAYS LOGO!!!! Exactly the very same napkins that we have on our airplanes with the LOGO. So I asked the owner, who is a friend of mine and he said " Oh, my wife boughtYep a bunch of those for $.99 at either K-Mart or Wal-mart. I said "You have got to be kidding'? He then pulls out from behind the bar....2 big bundles of napkins all have the USAirways logo on them. Yep, he says, my wife bought these ......kind of freaked me out. Anyone have any input as to why we would be selling USAirways napkins by the bulk at the Discount Stores? Am I going crazy or what????

Did they also use them to rope off the kitchen? B)

Light Years: You stinker....when I was posting this, the thought running through my head was you saying just what you did. Unfortunatley this Bar doesn't have a kitchen so to speak. Just USAirways Napkins all over the place!

Ive always suspected that the business plan (or plans) never contemplated retaining the "USAirways" brand identity.

bigbusdrvr: I realize some of the "old" usair may be sold on e-bay, but these were napkins with USAirways logo on them for crying out loud that were bought at either K-Mart or Wal-mart by the bulk. I know this is trivial as I have said. If I start seeing our trash bags being sold by bulk in the grocery store, I am really going to freak. But I guess we need the money and will do anything for a buck.

New PA:

"Folks, in an effort to be environmentally friendly we have eliminated the use of napkins. If you need to wipe something, please use your sleeve. Thank you."

OMG !! Light Years...you made me pee my pants a little. Hysterical!! I have been embarassed by our 'napkin nonsense' gateway to Envoy class for a while. Unfortunatley I can't hold CSD and don't have a say. Keep the wit sharp, you will need every barb as events unfold this Spring. To quote Lewis Carroll, "things just keep getting curiouser and curiouser."

I was doing a Caribbean turn a few months back and went into the terminal to grab something to eat. I got served with USAirways napkins. I went ape*#@%$ all over the people who ran the place and reported it to corporate security upon my return. No wonder we are loosing money left and right...on top of bad management.

well if this is the new usairways marketing dept. it sure is a clever way to make a buck or two! if the marketing dept is reading this, why not see about sell off some routes? that is of course what the usairways marketing dept was famous for in the 1990s when the california and BWI and Florida were "given" to Southwest and now they are beating up on USAIR starting in May in good ol phl--the most delay prone airport in our system!

I bought some AA china cups and saucers years ago at a Big Lots (to use as cappacino cups) and I think they had a small flaw in the pattern, maybe that is the case.

This story doesn't pass the smell test...

Ask yourself, when was the last time you saw Wal-Mart OR K-Mart serving as an overstock/remainders/going out of business discounter. You are not going to see the same merchandise as you would at Saks or Nordstroms, but those two organizations do NOT buy leftovers from other companies.

Big Lots does buy remainders; so buying flawed or discontinued airline stuff there is not surprising, but Wal-Mart or K-Mart??? Come on people.

It's like the story that went around the system at AA a couple of years ago about the rampant stealing of liquor and/or liquor money by flight attendants at LGA because the amount of money turned in didn't even come close to balancing with the amount of liquor being boarded there. Then it turned out that employees of the caterer were arrested for stealing the liquor--several million dollars worth over 4 or 5 years!

Someone in catering or stores is selling corporate supplies out the back door. That practice has been rampant in the Caribbean for years. Sounds like it has come to the ole US of A.
