Moving To The Land Of The Big Brown Plane

I have accepted a position with a company in Dallas and will be starting there on the 18th of this month. Most of my travels will be in the southwest for the first six months as we build a sales team from scratch, concentrating on those areas closest to the the warehouse in Dallas. I will most likely be commuting back and forth to NC for the next year.

Given where we will be focusing the first 6 months my guess is I'm going to become very familiar with the BIG brown turd. Heaven help me.

I'm hoping for a route strcture that will let me fly HP as much as possible to the west and my guess is DL will get all of the east coast travel. The NE will be the last place we focus, so US will soon be a bad memory of what has become of a once proud airline.

All I can say is we tried.

As my buddy Dr. K (Art) says........My best to you all

ps. I would not be breathing that sigh of relief just yet if I worked in CCY. I once said the best you could hope for was that I would just go away mad. I didn't. I may be moving but until HP takes over I will stay just as committed to the employees of this airline as ever. That you can count on........

After a hard day on the road, you might just find that the big brown bus ain't half bad.

Actually, the are not really brown any more. Canyon Blue over Desert Orange over Diaper Yellow.

Years ago, when WN first appeared on the West Coast, we were taxiing out behind a WN 737-300. My Captain, well known for his sense of humor, remarked on the radio, "Hey Southwest, I'm not sure what you guys flew through, but it's all over the top of your airplane!"

But I guess Southwest had the last laugh after all.

I am going to echo KC's sentiments, of course, one would expect that, since we are notorious WN apologists.

Nut you know, L4Pi, if you move to Dallas and approach the folks over at convenient Love Field with an open mind, you might find yourself real surprised.

There's lots of flights. Lots of them.

Walk up fares won't kill you.

Love Field is a snap to get in and out of.

Print out your boarding pass at midnight before going out to the airport to catch your flight in the morning and you can almost find yourself in pre-911 nirvana....breeze through security and be at your gate, rady to get on the flight, in 10 or 15 mins from the parking lot.

Southwest doesn't kiss the butts of any elite, super gee whiz molybdenum medallion flyers...but they tend to treat everyone well. You can expect courteous service and a full beverage service on the shortest of flights, assuming there are no really nasty summertime thunderstorms along the way.

Unlike USAirways, you can check your bags with a reasonably high degree of certainty that it will come off the carousel at your destination.

Good Luck & welcome to Texas. You'll have to look me up when I get back from an undisclosed location in Iraq.

I look forward to buying you the biggest steak you can eat when you get back. Thanks for doing what you do. Freedom isn't free and you and your family are paying the price for all of us. We WILL get together. ( and we may even invite KC  ).

All of your comments about Love field and WN are in fact true. I have flown them many times and my guess I'm about to fly them every week. They simply are going to go where I need to go and Love is very easy to fly out of. The one factor is my office is less than 5 minutes to any gate at DFW so AA may be in the running as well.

I think WN is a very well run company, has changed the industry forever, and are very good at what they do. I even admre their success. However, I simply like to sit in first after a long day, have a drink, and get a little paper work done. In the past, getting that work done while flying meant more time with the family once home. That simply is not going to be the case on WN, but I bet I'm about to get used to it.

May God bless you, and keep you safe till you can come home to your family and friends. Thanks again for the sacrifice you are making.

l4pi, as a Dallas resident who lived in Charlotte years ago, I should warn you that you may find the weather in Dallas slightly different from North Carolina weather. :p

ELP_WN_Psgr,

Be careful, friend. Being from TX, I'm sure you know when to shoot, and when to ask questions.

longing4piedmont,

You have been a loyal friend for U employees. Many thanks.

WN has that PI 'can do' attitude. Once you get over FC and stuff, I'm guessing you'll like them.

And along the way, we can all hope the new sheriff in town at US will clean up CCY.

That is the only long-term solution.
