More Pain, Less Pay For Us Airways Employees

700UW,

Please investigate what UNITED IAM mechanics were imposed last year by the judge.

I was told by a United local AFA Pres. that United managment had motioned for a 1113(e), all groups negotiated to open their contracts and took a negotiated 9%.

However, the IAM did not. The judge did not impose the 23% the company sought out. They had imposed 13%. It was in effect until AMFA negotiated another wage cut.

Can you put out the facts on this. This is before AMFA came in.

I know UAL has had only 1 concession. Same with AA. Unlike U. We are on our #3.

PB,

Sorry for speaking out of turn..and not on 700's behalf , but here goes from what I remember.

IIFC, UA wanted a 13% cut from their mechanics after having already sold themselves out on doing Heavy Maintenance Checks..thus leading to the closure of their facilities in both IND then OAK.

IIFC , The Judge actually bumped the UA "Ask" to a 14% reduction in wages and etc. Hardly 23% by any account.

UA unlike U willingly gave up their work in Heavy...as opposed to U's IAM membership standing resolute against givng up anymore work to companies with mainly foriegn interests gaining OUR all mighty dollars.

Drawing a comparison between U's circumstance...and the circumstance in which UA allowed itself to be drawn into at the expense of thousands of jobs is indeed a slippery slope , yet in the end I firmly believe that U's IAM'ers are in a far better position to fight a worthy fight against such monsterous incursions into our wallets and continued employment.

I firmly believe with BK Part II being squarely back in Judge Mitchell's Court Room again..that a man of principal such as he will certainly have to look at what was presented previously..and note what was given without any internal disruptions getting in the way afterward...with that said, Maybe with hope being eternal , he just might focus on the salaries and actions of "The gang that couldn't shoot or think straight "for change ? .One can only hope.

To pass judgement wisely..One must examine all aspects of the issue before rendering judgement....and if we have any hope of survival at all? , it will require turning U over to people with honest to God airline acumen. Up to this point , we have had nothing of the kind since the first mergers took place. This is the biggest challenge that stands between profits and loss.

Should Judge Mitchell appoint a "Trustee" with such talents...I will eagerly offer up 10% of my present wages for a to be determined period in hopes of re-building U instead of making it easier for a very select few to piss it away , piece part it..or mearly run it completely into the ground.

That is my recollection too.

PITbull, I think you are getting your (U's) 23% figure confused with what happened at UA.

The bottom line is, the UA mechanics got smacked by Judge Wedoff, and the Company got exactly what they wanted, if not more.

Your mileage may vary during U's 1113(e) process, of course, but when planning for the months ahead, I would be advising U's AFA members to count on a 23% cut in base flight pay rates.
