as u guys know or not my wife is a ual f/a . she just called me to tell me that on her flt ( that just parked at the gate) ual flt 233 iad-phx a-320. there was a hp pilot very big in the union who was jumpseating to phx solely to talk about the us/hp merger. his name if i heard correctly was paul rice . he told my wife that things are moving along in a rapid pace and that an announcement will come in days. there is also an investor to fund the merger. he said that there is no animosity between the 2 companies, nor should there be . said that this merger is a very good thing and that with hp management running it its a win win for both employee groups. also hp has hawaii in its sights once this merger is done. and that they are very excited that they will finally have routes to europe. thats all i got . he said that they are trying to see if they could at least keep the "cactus" call sighn even if the corporate name changes to usairways.

just clarified with my wife, it was paul rice from ual not hp. now what he is doing going to phx to participate somehow with this merger , i don't know. but what i posted earlier was what my wife told me paul said to her. i guess she thought he was an hp pilot because he was talking so much about this merger and talked as if he knew alot about it .

Well, if he's the VP of ALPA he should know a lot about it and should be participating in talks!

ok stop with the name guessing . its gonna stay usairways wether people like it or not . it has an intl ring to it . yeah it comes with baggage but that's the way it gonna be. having "cactus" as our call sighn on the other hand is not a bad idea. its a hint of who and what the airline really is about. letting others know out there in the airways that america west is not gone but just grew up a little bit and is sporting a new outfit . but still has that southwestern pride within it

Unlike last night's terminator from PHL into my station!

As I said two days ago, the formal merger announcement is imminent and US Airways-America West has the third party investor(s) lined up. The investment agreements are in the final advisor review stage, a holding company will acquire both US Airways and America West, and you will be "stunned" at the amount of equity provided to the combined business enterprise.

It will be interesting to see how the seniority lists end up. I would venture a guess that quite a few America west pilots are about to get furloughed.

i'd like to know what or who will be the new investor. i take it that this will have no effect on any of the 30 or so cities being outsourced.
