True, but isn;t the rule 100 NM from land? So, in the middle, you're about 50 NM from land.

The 737-400s are not OW anymore and have not been for several years, all the A320s are, some A319s and all the 757s, I believe the A321s are also.

I believe the rule is 50 NM from land. Thus, the widest body of water a non-overwater equipped aircraft can cross is just under 100NM, because at 50 NM from the one shoreline, you would be 50 NM from the other... (theoretically, anyway)
