LGA Fleet Service,LGA Fleet Service said:Unfortunate you have that view of employee suggestions. At American we have a program called "IdeAAs that fly",and there is a 777 flying around that employee cost reduction suggestions paid for.
Even more remarkable, that aircraft was delivered pre 9/11,joining the 757 that employee cost saving suggestions paid for several years earlier.
You are right though, what do people who actually work in the operational side of the business know about useful cost saving ideas?
USAir of old had a B757 that was procured via an "Ideas That Fly" program as well. The Acft even had that program slogan marked on the L/H Fwd side of the fuselage.
Sadly the program was dropped...and the Logo was discarded during the Wolfman's tenure...and drive to slap an old whore into a new dress sort of speak.
Sure changing our name...and sprucing up the livery to what I consider as being a very "Regal " scheme was nice...but the core issues of what's wrong with U were never ever addresed. ...and Ideas that fly....became an idea to profit and run...and leave it up to the next owner (UA at the time) to resolve.
U has had a history of failing to solve problems...or mask them. The idea of not seeing a problem or aknowledging a problem has always left the leadership with a false sense of success during a given groups tenure here.
The one constant in U's history...pre and post merger mania has been it's people...and thier collective will to provide safety and quality to it's customers. This regardless of the problems we have...and those being created by continued poor judgement will never change.
U is the only company I have ever been part of that blaims it's workforce for its ills..I learned in the military if something fails...it fails do to ill concieved planninig , logistical failures , or lack of foresight. This always falls on the shoulders of the leadership....an it always should !!!
The above I liken to my days as a Paratrooper in the Army. During my last couple of years in...I pushed myself to qualify as a "Master Parachutist"...in doing so I was often tasked to serve as the primary "Jumpmaster" on the given Acft. The rules for being a Jumpmaster were very clear and understood. The Jumpmaster can deligate authority...but never responsibility !!! Corporate leadership should be treated and tasked no differently if we are to survive?
....and a parting quote. Amatuers study tactics...Professionals study Logistics.
