Mechanics vote

Victory for the IBT at this stage is simply to achieve an election. Then the real work will begin and we will truly see which Union will serve the interests of it's members best. True colors will be shown. Based on what I've read on these boards their isn't too many people happy with the IAM. The mechanics I've mingled have been IBT an although their contract is still under negotiation there seems to be a healthy amount of solidarity amongst them. Most of my department turned cards in yesterday. The momentum is building. IAM supporters...you may be right that this doesn't even get to a vote, but don't bet any of the money you have stowed away for a rainy day. It's going to come down to judge and jury (NMB) and how they rule on the furloughed people with no reasonable chance to return to work, non-represented US West folks turning in cards, and IAM mechanics turning in IBT cards who are willing to listen to both sides campaign. I think if I were an IAM tech I'd give the IBT a chance to show what they can offer. What's the alternative? The current IAM contract till 2009?

The IAM petitioned the NMB to declare single carrier status....for union purposes only. The IBT filed an objection because the IBT does not feel that the terms for single carrier status have been met by the company.

As far as I know, this single carrier status (union purposes only) has NOTHING to do with a single operating certificate.

Or maybe I just don't understand your question.
Thanks

Victory for the IBT at this stage is simply to achieve an election.

I still say..if you vote either in...you have voted for no change...there is no way either union in this day and age can protect you. You are a comodity..to be sold ,traded, or even worse..just screwed, for you your dues. Just remember...power in numbers= more dues. Oh and dont forget..the old union escape clause.."you voted for it".

You are all talk, where is the proof?

Why hasn't the ibt filed for an election?

Why are your so called reps shown to be liars?
I have not seen any proof from you or the IAM.
If the IBT does or does'nt have the cards the NMB has not ruled so why should they.
You are not always correct on your facts. For one, the surviving company is not us airway of old.

There are over 6,000 US M&R including laid-off members, add the 850 HP M&R and you have almost 7,000.

I believe that the determination has yet to be made as to whether or not all the furloughed members will have a vote based on some clause about a reasonable expectation of returning to work.

And why hasn't the ibt filed for an election yet?
You all say you have enough cards and victory is in the bag, why not election?

Again, I believe that single carrier status has NOT yet been granted, thus no call for an election. When that is granted, I believe an election will be called for.

Why do I get mail every week from the ibt begging me to sign a card?

Could it be that they haven't given up on you yet? They are trying to get you to understand that you DO have a choice and you are NOT obligated to the IAM??

Take off the rose colored glasses and welcome to the IAM when the NMB grants single carrier status.

I believe you mean IF. No status has been granted yet. Let the process work and then make the statement.

Get ready to go back to work Randy and I Andy will have to go back to slinging boxes at UPS. Disregarded due to the personal nature of the statement.

And when we win you will be just a stock clerk or a lav driver again. Win or lose - I am a mechanic and proud of my trade. It doesn't have to pried out of me. I take my pride in watching the passengers get off the planes at thier destinations safely.

I just wanted to let you know that you were right and I was wrong........about the term "raiding" when it comes to unions. I actually heard the word used by the IBT and it was not as I thought it or took to mean. I am being educated as I have stated I wanted to be.

on a break from the table - busy not running - have seen your list and there are duplicates from catagories check your list - and no one tells me what to say - I have a mind of my own, I am a teamster -
well then use that mind of your own and look on your very own teamsters 104 website to see the figures both your company's legal departments have supplied to NMB regarding the head count.
