I think this is the right place to ask this.
I was reading the IAM East (dated Jan 31, 2005) Contract and it states in Article 23 - Duration....
"The parties will commence bargaining for a new collective bargaining agreement no later than January 15, 2009. If the parties have not reached a tentative agreement by July 1, 2009, they will, no later than July 10, 2009, jointly apply for mediation with the National Mediation Board."
If this is the case why is the IAM negotiating a T/A and not a new contract. It seems that with this timetable that the T/A will only be in place only for a short time. It doesn't prevent either side from beginning negotiations sooner and then at least the MX contract could be finished....
I am not sure if I have all the facts, there may be other agreements that were made, but this is just what i had read and was hoping someone could bring some light on it.
