MDT loses mainline service

Woo-hoo! A state capital!

So Madison, WI; Tallahassee, FL; Augusta, ME; Pierre, SD; Springfield, IL; Sacramento, CA; Baton Rouge, LA; Lansing, MI; Jefferson City, MO; Helena, MT; Santa Fe, NM; Juneau, AK and Salem, OR, (etc.) all have mainline service?
OK did you remember all of them from grade school or did you look them up on wikepedia (or however it's spelled)? :)

I understand the yield side of the equation - nobody's in business to lose money.

I also know US replaced mainline service with express service in markets with high load factors AND high yields.

Right now, the altar the business establishment worships at is cutting labor costs - look how pissed Wall Street is with WN and Costco for daring to pay their employees a decent wage.

There used to be a lot of $30, $40, $50 k jobs. Now there are $25 and $100 k, with a lot in the middle.

I just hope I'm alive when the American public calls bu//$7it.

Quite a lot do in fact, MSN, TLH, SMF, BTR(F9),LAN, and JUN all have mainline service. The others that do not are nowhere near the size of the MDT/York areas. AUG & COU (Jeff City) both rely on EAS subsidies to maintain & PIR/SPI are just a step above.

Point is, MDT is a mid-size city with plenty of pax to go around & it being a state capital brings more to the plate.

LCC flies mainline to all those places?

Or are you talking ANY airline? Because if so, well, then, MDT has mainline service, too.

MDT has MainLine with NW and UA. But US was a dominant carrier at MDT. I understand the PIT loss and PHL mainline doesn't make sense although they use to have a plane RON. MCO US had saturday service which was a good thing except I would have thought that flight should have operated a few more days. Build a new terminal, US will leave. Does not pay to build for US!

If "competitive" to you = money-losing to LCC, then LCC is better off pulling out.
With all of the wage cuts that have taken place around here, they should not lose a dime in any market. If they were able to make a profit years ago, doing it now should be easy..

My reading of your comment was mainline in general. That being said, these aren't cities that US has any major stronghold presence. The big difference as another poster said, was US was the dominant carrier at MDT with mainline flights at one time or another in the past to PIT, CLT, BOS, MCO, PHL (yes, one per day) and express to BWI, DCA, LGA, etc...

You can look at a city like MSN & LAN, kind of similar to MDT where NW has always been strong & still throwing mainline in. The same can be said about TLH & DL. By the way, both of these had US mainline in the past at one point.

PS- SMF does have mainline US service

I know this was a sarcastic post, but for what it's worth, Salem (SLE) doesn't have any scheduled service at all.

Also, NW has the only mainline service left in MSN (10 flights/daily...Pinnacle also has 1 CRJ each to DCA and MEM).

AA, YX, and UA have all pulled out, and now have service(s) operated by their airlink partners.
