Mci Station Ops

Does anyone know why PSA CRJ 700s (or 200s for that matter) are not using jetways in MCI and if MCI is still a mainline station? We did a CLT r/t last week and parked at A1 where we were met by MESA ramp people. Just seems odd to make 70 people go up and down stairs when jetways are available.

:p
LESS RENT, its all about money, cheap fares, cheap service , PADABING :p

IAM

I know some jetways won't mate up with the CRJ's.

I understand there is some retrofit to make it compatible, but that takes $$$.

Not to mention just how much of a mess the Carry-on saga causes in the Jetway upon arrival. A mob of 70 people crammed at the end of the Jetway waiting for their carry-ons to be lugged up the Jetway while others try to get thru.
For a departure it works OK as they are sent down in a steady flow during boarding. I prefer to avoid using the Jetway for this reason, and it slows down the turnaround process as well with Pushback.

Many traditional jetways do not accomodate CRJs without modifications. With the whole bag mess it probably isn't a good idea to have a jetway anyhow on the 70 seat one. The E170 fits all jetways, and has real overhead bins thus no planeside checking, which is why they use jetways at MCI, and I believe every other station. The CRJ also is very low to the ground and has the integral stairs so that's likely another reason.

A CRJ of any length or description on such a long flight is torture. The 700s are perfect for short RJ routes that need more capacity on certain frequencies. They should not be used for midcon flights unless we are chartering a group of Ooompa Loompas or Munchkins to a conference or some such thing.

The 170, if you are >60th person on the plane, results in gate-checking stuff during the business travel peaks (when everyone has a roller and a laptop bag), because the overheads are more old-boeing that new-airbus (my 22" roller won't go in wheels first).

Agreed on that score. The CRJ, in any length, is cruel and unusual punishment for anything over an hour.

However, on the 170, a full size rollaboard can also fit under a seat and be approved because of the extra legroom and no bar between the individual seats, which you cant do on an Airbus or Boeing. The bins are definately more along the lines of the MD80 or an older Boeing. The plane can easily accomodate all baggage if people aren't silly with the bin space. There's always someone who crams the bins with coats, a tiny bag from Bath & Body, and thier laptop, puts nothing at all under the seat, and then stares at the poor fool who is now left to check thier rollaboard. It's like the old Metrojets- if the F/As are proactive in watching the bins during the boarding process it should fit everything.

I would go so far as to say a crj in any lenth is unusual punishment. I would rather fly in a Dash even if it took 3 times as long then break my neck and back in that straw. The 145 is worse.

Using the Jetway for the EMB-170 is not bad, but for any of the other Toy-Jets, it is a waste. Management is cramming the Jetway use for RJ's down everyones throat with hopes that the passengers will forget they are on an Express flight.

So, to sum up the disgruntled opinion: RJs suck. Thanks for the news flash!

Now to be serious. I agree that the carry on situation with jetways during arrival can be inconvienient for all (pax and employees), but some stations (SDF) have added lugguage elevators to the jetways which allow passengers to collect their bags inside of the terminal and not in the actual jetway.

I always read people spouting off "we're the best employees in the industry", and I can't disagree with that with all the BS thats been rammed down our throats. But, it would be nice to see some creative thinking from those same employees on how to deal with the current problems this airline is facing. Luggage seems to be the one thing this airline just can't get a handle (no pun) on. Using a baggage loader belt to run the bags to the top of the jetway is friggin brilliant, it saves time and manpower. I didn't want to start another RJs suck, so lets all jump on the bandwagon and complain thread. Is there any creativity left from the original Piedmont or PSA folks?

Part of the Problems with RJ's are that the Stations DO NOT have the proper Equipment to handle them. Most ERJ's and CRJ's require a Bridge Plate since you can not pull the Jetways up to MOST aircraft. THE COMPANY refuses to purchase these Bridges. Also most stations DO NOT have Tow Bars to push the aircraft off the gate. So to sum it all up, our CHEAP COMPANY refuses to pay for the equipment we need to use a jetway.

well todya we had to use jetway for our 840am arrival at the same time our clt 737 is getting ready for pushback. jetway didnt have the ramp due to us the employees getting final jtwy bags for clt flt and the pax sat on the erj from phl for about 10 to 15 min longer than expected. the jtwy is draggin the ground power cord but of course our mgr says usair doesnt want to hear it. we have to bring the carry on up and down the steps what a pain. already we got one guy out with a hurt back due to putting the towbar on to the erj. i wonder how many more of us will get hurt just by doing that. it also took four of us to lift the small ramp up onto the jetway to use it for the erj Chautauqua. it is a royal pain in the a$$ to do that because it weighs 250 pounds. it cant be fastened and the jetway goes way back to the eastern airlines days

2 of the Cle jetways are retrofitted.
One in particular, should HAVE NOT BEEN PAID FOR!

The Holiday Fiasco in Dec, EVERYTHING WAS FROZEN>>Psgrs were on board at the gate, waiting to DEPLANE>.45 MINUTES LATER!!

It's a friggin joke....

The wex is finally warming and everything is working, the regular j/w fitted for a jet is okay in the freexing ,no, not the CRJS..

SO when the ERJ is in, it (and I use the term it), is parked at another gate so we do not have problems...

And,,,the ramp REMOVES THE FRONT PANEL TO RE-START IT UP...on the retrofitted POS!!!

Class Operation this  is!

Would be nice if we could get a Towbar for the ERJ. Even better yet, a 28V GPU would be nice so the aircraft with an In-Op APU doesnt have to run its engine for an hour.
