Hey Biggles, if that happens again, just hit F12 and save the spreadsheet under a different name, this should remove the read-only protection. The second way is to go to the file properties part when you click with the right mouse button and un-check the read-only option.

If it is the cell you want to change just select it and hit Cntrl 1 to get to the formatting options.

Go to the top toolbar. Format - Cell - click on Text. the current format on the cell appears to be Date.
