Luv Fades

SWA was founded in 1971, just over 35 years ago. SWA has been profitable at least 30 of those 35 years or 86% of the time.

Actually 33 out of 35 years since they started flying -- every single year since 1973. Also profitable for 62 consecutive quarters going back to the Gulf War in early 1991. And, for what it's worth, Southwest's fleet is now larger than United's.

it takes more little airplanes to do the job of the big ones.

Big planes (wide bodies) are unfavorable to LCCs for the following reasons:

1. They don't come cheap.
2. They require more ground time and they don't make money on the ground.
3. They cannot be highly utilized for high frequency flights.
4. Whatever reason Herb has ever given. ;)

SWA is on the 787 design team, FWIW.

Clearly SWA won't be able to continue it's current biz model indefinitely, there are only so many city pairs in the lower 48 that support high frequency 737 ops.

Whether SWA gets bigger a/c, smaller a/c or expands internationally remains to be seen.

SO WHEN was it that UA has generated 30 years of consecutive profits? All I hear is MEOW MEOW MEOW MEOW when it comes to the answer to this question from you and your Sky God pal Magsau.

Now put on your dress and go fly some of your prison matron flight attendents around so they can sit on their assets in the galley and complain about the elites instead of serving them.

Keyboard bravado at its finest, thus ends any debate with you.

The -700s would have no problem getting anywhere in North America.

Mags is ecstatic that SWA now serves DIA and IAD. SWA is taking all the scum PAX off his plane.

Now he can enjoy his int'l flights to Asia, where none of the big $ biz pax prefer good looking Singapore/Thai et al FAs to UAL FAs.

No, those pax prefer the UAL flying grandmas and their energetic, high-quality service.

Rhino...there is no need to insult UAL FA's. Mags is doing a fine job of hurting them because when he calls folks everything from trailer trash to uneducated dolts, they are less likely to want to spend their hard earned money on his airline. And when a company or an employee of a company becomes particular about just whose money they'd prefer to accept by being so particular about the people who are wanting to spend it, it only hurts them. IMHO, UAL FA's rampers, agents and managment are the ones who are ultimately hurt by mags antics.

I'm sure the UAL FAs are very professional. Since when is calling a grandma a "grandma" an insult? UAL international FAs are very senior and naturally older.

I don't endorse the Asian airlines' policy of having only attractive young women as their cabin crew, but I guarantee you the high $ travelers do.

FAs may believe that they are only there for their passengers' safety. The male biz traveller sure doesn't.

Back on the topic of "LUV fades", it seems that WN has "faded" into being the largest airline in the world - at least by one measure.

As many of you know, WN has been at the top of the list for domestic enplanements for a while now, but today BTS announced that WN enplaned more system passengers than any other airline during the month of August - displacing American who had long held the title as world's largest airline based on passenger enplanements.

BTS Press Release

In the interest of full disclosure, I should add that BTS ranks certificated carriers, so the express operations of the legacy carriers aren't included in the totals since they operate on their own certificate. If AA Eagle/Connection were added in, American would regain the top spot.

Congratulation on your retirement!

Re Luv...Their success have maybe cought up with them, if just a little.

With a strong financial base, and looking for higher yields by wanting to buy gates/slots into the LGA/DCA's of the world (if LCC/DAL merger), they're surely not broken.

Am wondering how long before they invade the Caribbean, and maybe Europe within the next 5 years?
