Leader Throws Carrot To Employees

So if this so-called management could produce a possitive cash flow with 60 additional aircraft through increased employee utilization, why didn't they reduce the fleet to 339 rather than 279 in bankruptcy? It is becoming more and more obvious every day that this management hasn't a clue what it is doing? It has taken us from being the sixth largest to seventh largest US carrier. It has essentially invited intrusion by our most devistating competitor into our crown jewel facility (by pissing off the folks in PA). It has done nothing to address our inefficient route structure, lopsided hub infrastructure, or massive delays in our most profitable hub.

Time for a change.

N628AU;

I am not very familiar with other labor group contract comparisons, but I have a pretty good handle on the pilot contract.

I do not want to do an in-depth analysis, but here are some areas management might seek from ALPA:
all this was left on the table during bk?

I don't think you'll find many pilots willing to take the bait this time. After the face slapping we went through over the pension, the credibility of management is nill with the large majority of our group. As the economy spools back up, so will our bottom line until the next downturn. Then we'll be back in this same hole again because our management has no plan, no vision and no clue. Last count, ALPA had over 200 greivences going. Thats over 200 violations to our contract. Granted, most of them pale in comparison to the IAM heavy maintenance issue, but the point is the company couldn't care less about us contractually, personally or otherwise. Well...the feeling is MUTUAL.

Again, what would these planes be used for? It goes against thier whole dreadful idea of shrinking the mainline... would we resume flying A320s into tiny towns throughout the East Coast? Service to the West and the Carribbean that our current hubs and focus cities could support still doesnt put use to 60 aircraft. Dont forger MAA will take over alot of higher capacity short haul flying from the 737s as well... 60 planes could be a pretty sizable hub or focus city, but that goes against the plan too (Star REliance, Codeshare, Replacement Jets)... plus when we are cash strapped is probably not the best time to spend money and resources on unproven operations.

Light years...see my reply to Cavalier on page 7 of the call for Seigels removal thread....I think I have a clear grasp of whats at hand here.

There is a possibility some of those 60 airplanes could be used to

compete against the LCC's, especially Southwest in PHL.

It is pointless to even give this rumor the time of day. How many times do you have to fall for this crap. Siegel is going to grow the mainline...Sure. Lies Lies Lies. It will never ever happen. Nip this one in the bud and don't get your hopes up.

Actually, during the meeting Dave did say 60 MAINLINE aircraft.
And you are exactly who? And what do we have to give up in contract language? Will it mean more jobs, same amount of jobs or even less jobs down the road? Type of A/C being considered? Enlighten us all please.

And to add to cav's questions,

*additional or replacement?

*from where (new or secondhand and if so from whom)

*and for what- new service, much higher frequencies, point to point, new focus city?

OH well DELETED BY MODERATOR, if DAVE said it would happen, I'm sure it will. There's no concievable way DAVE could be full of it. Sorry, I didn't know DAVE said it would be MAINLINE. Boy do I feel stupid! DAVE's word is Gold. What was I thinking. I must have had an anuerism at the exact moment I read "Mainline". I feel much better now knowing that DAVE said mainline will grow. Whew!! what an DELETED relief!!! And here I though it might be possible that mainline growth wouldn't happen. MAN!! AM I AN IDIOT!!!!!!! Sorry for wasting everybody's time. Dave is in total control. What could go wrong. I'm going to start getting ready for my impending recall. Great news. THANK YOU SANTA!!!!!!!!!

As I have said for the past couple of days, the 60 aircraft are A320 family aircraft with 30 delivered in 2004 and 30 in 2005.

I understand the thought is to lower fares and to make up the lost revenue/profits by averaging down unit costs, thus it has to be mainline type aircraft to have the required load factor. That's what Southwest and JetBlue are doing and to a lesser extent, due to their cost structures, Song and Ted.

Chip

Chip-

So where do all of the SJ/RJs go then? We would just be returning to flying mainline aircraft on our mostly short haul network? Doesnt that raise the costs no matter what?

....and this fits into your UA B767-222 and A319/320 mis-match theory how??

There are still quite a few cities that I would expect to be turned into Mainline Express cities and a lot of current Express prop routes that could use some jets on them. There are also a lot of routes we used to fly point to point that could see service added as well as some more service between cities we currently serve that could use some more flights at key times of the day.
I would think it would be a good move to get as many props off of key routes where other carriers are flying big jets asap. Arts LGA-upstate NY would be a good area for MAA. Its still not an Airbus with direct TV, but its better than the "buzz bucket?". :p
