Layoffs

Likewise in the West if they don't inherit fortunate son status.

I meant all US folks East & West. We are a bit burned out from all of this.
United folks might not be so inclinded.

P.S. I think anyone that can retire in this industry and yet chooses to still work is a loon.

This is on the subject, but not entirely. Anyone know seniority levels of F/A's at UAL? I think some of the F/A's on the West side are ready to jump if this happens due to very little seniority when compared to UAL. If it happens, there would have to be some layoffs with fleet reduction and route simplification. Ideas? I really don't know that much about UAL except that they have around 17,000 flight attendants. Would appreciate input from those with the knowledge...

Yes, they have very senior f/a's. But don't let that fool you. Just hang on to your hat.

Most of them are just like US and are where they want to be. Some may want to come to PHX but they can only go there if there are openings in your base. That is what the "no flush" is all about. No open positions...no tranfers.

Ya'll don't need to start jumping ship. Stay calm. Chill......

I truely understand where you are coming from. You were in my thoughts this morning when I read in the newspaper and saw the reports of US in talks with UA. And I was thinking...our west end friends are going to start freaking. Don't. Please don't. I know you're nervous but just wait and see if any of this comes to fruition.

Thank you for the nice post. I am seriously not one that is freaked. In fact, I am kind of excited. Guess I like change. But, have heard in the last couple of days many saying they may be furloughed. Again, thank you for the positive post. You are nice.

Richard, sorry for including the quote. Please don't scold me for taking up too much space. It was an error. It won't happen again.

Don't listen to the rumors.
In all my years (18) I was told that too.
I only had one furlough (Gulf war) and one displacement (PIT closing).
Everything else was an ulcer waiting to happen if I allowed it.
Tell your co workers that 99% of the rumors never come to fruition.

I didn't mean to alarm anyone. There are some F/A's here in PHX that are already saying they're toast with very little seniority. With 17,000 UAL flight attendants, it is a little daunting. Oh well, next chapter ready to be written. I'm along for the ride.

Please keep in mind that the f/a contract with United provides for voluntary leaves of absence in the event the company needs to furlough. Just like US. So if United needs to furlough because of fleet reduction, they have to offer leaves first. I don't know about the pilots.

Also, I just read that United is going to reduce the f/a staffing on domestic 757 from 5 to 4. Just like US. Their f/a's have been fighting this but to no avail because it's a FAA minimum.

We all know how that impacts the service experience. We've been at FAA minimums for so long, I wouldn't know how to act if we had supplemental f/a's!
