This is nothing new, in my 20 years, there has always been abolishments, bumping and bidding, open and closing of work, and work being shifted around.

No airline is immune to it, union or non-union, do you know at Delta, if you dont move for your job, your terminated with no recall rights?

From the CBA:

how many mx does that leave US AIRWAYS with?  Numbers keep dwindling it seems.

There is about 3,500 current mechanic and related, no one knows what they will do yet, so the #s arent complete, you will have the ripple effect.

AA has SEA MTX. Watch their be a swap with SAN MTX.
So USAir out in SAN and maybe AA out in SEA.
We will see soon enough.

This seems totally pointless. AA has in house MX in San. Once the merger is complete the US mechs will get their jobs back. Post merger AA wil have MX in SAN. Who thought this crap?

that's what happens when there isn't any scope
San MX closing is confirmed......  wonder how many from san traveled to dca and signed letters to help Parker and his cronies with this merger?????????????????

its about forcing retirements rather than commuting again. Some san mx are very senior

I doubt anyone from SAN did that, most of them are probably the old PSA guys.

They will bump into LAX or SFO, they closed SAN before.

wrong.....most are from HP.....there are 6 from psa. I don't think they will commute again.....

Mgmt did this crap with the TWA merger; get rid of excess personel before new CBA's kicked in. This is a WELL traveled road.

The bag belt work can be outsourced, it was outsourced in CLT years ago, and became a disaster to get fixed.

The city or airport owns the belt, so they can outsource the work.
I hope the CLT luggage belts work more consistently than the moving sidewalks in the terminal.

From a pilot perspective closing mx stations and going to contract is foolish. It's terrible for the customer when it takes usually 45 mins for contract to even show up

I agree. I have spoken to pilots about this and they sometimes are reluctant to write up minor items since the end result will be a deferral anyway. From a business standpoint to provide customer service it is a bad idea but from a business standpoint to save money it is a good idea. Sometimes you wonder what kind of people are running the airlines these days.
