They already agreed to overtime bypass. No problem there. The main reason why we don't have a contract right now is because they got caught in a new election that I successfully argued, and this new election is serving as a negotiation strategy with the metaphorical political gun to their heads, if they sign some stupid stuff, that they might have otherwise signed if they didn't have to run for office. So I'm sure they had to rethink some things. I also C blocked Sixto as well {he is still in denial) , so he has to think about his position with the International as well, although it will be tough to displace him. He was home free for 4 years as well. Elections are the only way of holding these brothers accountable. And there is no better time to hold them accountable than in late stage negotiations.
Our LUS contract isn't even up for another year. We are getting another pay raise. So, what's the fuss of having a new contract unless it significantly advances LUS without giving anything up? There isn't any reason to open up our medical and no-displacement security. The company is under contract with us for one year, then several years thereafter until we sign a JCBA. But you and I both know that the company wants to get rid of that no-displacement policy and that either enough people will take buyout or there will be some layoffs. The company has already offered the No-Layoff in exchange and I wouldn't be surprised if the Union bites on that, but no-layoff is worthless language.
And I'm not too comfortable with that power stow either. It's nice but if we waive our protections and have sad language, then we may lose 1 person per team, systemwide. Will it affect me? Yes. I have 32 years but everything in a collective contract affects all of us. Bad things make us weaker. And exchanging a no-displacement for a no-layoff is a bad thing. We have too many hubs. Maybe 2 too many. Which hub goes will be haunted with a bad contract.
Of course, I'm speaking from a LUS perspective.
