Pensions were what Americans used to receive and in the 80's and 90's the big corporate machine went on a path of convincing American worker's that 401k's were the best savings tool. The 3 legged stool of retirement calls for personal savings(401K), pensions and SS. With pensions being thrown out you only have a 2 legged stool, try and sit on a 2 legged stool, isn't easy. In the article above, the 2 creators of the 401k say it didn't work the way they planned. BTW, 401k is savings, so most Americans are hoping their 401k and SS allow them to retire.

I believe in pensions because of the 3 legged stool approach and because math supports it.

P. Rez you guys have a financial advisor or retirement counselor in the IAM 141 that you can actually look up his education and experience?

I still can't find anything on that guy in Tulsa?

perhaps math doesn't support the iampf

If the offer makes me comfortable and we do have a choice I'll "probably" go with the 5 leg stool myself? At least that's how I'm leaning.

Frozen AA Pension
My 401k Savings
Social Security
My Property
And the IAMPF

Then again I don't have a financial advisor who you can't find out much about when you do a Google search?

I just do it myself.

great, sure but what if the iampf is desert property in Miami?

our we not allowed to ask questions about the iampf? are we not allowed to ask if the average member with the guidance from a Fidelity professional would be better off investing over 30 years 20 years 10 years with match and contribution in a simple low cost index fund, rather than the iampf?

Are you kidding me? Ask away. The more questions in regards to ideas on financial planning the better of course.

For me I'm just doing fairly well on my current investments and would be ok with adding another one even if that leg of the 5th stool "could" possibly be a little wobbly?

Again we can advocate as much as we want but there are parties who do make the ultimate decision what they're going to offer us (The Company) and if we accept that offer (Our vote)

That makes no sense. Then send your money to Bernie Maddox.

Ah ok I get it here. You think your other investments are rock solid secure and they don't have wobbly legs too.

Yep the Market has never crashed ever.
Gold never tanked and has always only increased in value.
Oil is now up to $200.00 a Barrel.
SEARS, KMART and JC Penny Stock are on fire.
There's never been a Housing collapse.
There's never been a DBP thrown on the PBGC.
You ever invest in Belt Pagers?

Hey I made an investment in my ex wife too but she squeezed out a puppy with some new dude out in California. (Horrible return on that investment too)

Ah crap. My condo just caught fire and I didn't make my last insurance payment on it.

I'm screwed man.

I just looked at their webpage and this man certainly has done lots of stuff for lots of people. But I tried to find out what his educational background is and I'm coming up short?

As a matter of fact this whole list of people mention nothing about where they were educated?

Now they are all firmly ensconced in all sorts of Christian organizations and activities so I guess that has to count for something or other?

He has done much for a lot of people and everyone who has taken retirement advice from his was very happy. He is from a union family and is very knowledgeable. No offense but I will always believe someone with a track record like Mark's before another TWU member. He has done this a long time and is good at it.
