There is a master plan, my friends, each company has one, and the sooner you can get over not wanting to believe it, or worrying that to believe it puts you in the ranks of the nutters who thrive on conspiracy theories, then the sooner we have a chance of stopping them. Their singular goal is to take enough control over our lives so that, in the end, we’ll be pledging allegiance, not to a flag or some airy notions of freedom and democracy, but to the dictates of Citigroup, Exxon, Nike, GE, GM, P&G, and Philip Morris. It is their executives who now call the shots, and you can go vote and protest and cheat the IRS all you want to get back at them, but face it: You are no longer in charge. You know it and they know it, and all that remains is the day when it will be codified onto a piece of paper, the Declaration of the Corporate States of America.

And, much as I prefer to agree with Moore, it's a falsehood. Nobody forces people to shop at Wal-Mart; they do because they see the low price tags and ignore the high social costs. Nobody forces people to eat at McDonalds; they do because they see the low price tags, fast service, and familiarity, and ignore the high social costs.

Finally, nobody forced people to vote for Bush (AFAIK). The fact that the election was so close in the first place remains astonishing to me, but ultimately I can only conclude that people voted for him because he promised to lower their taxes and push a Protestant God into everyone's lives, and they ignored the high social costs.

Moore is an idiot. Each of is in charge of his or her life. Here is a little secret that most people refuse to believe. There is one, and only one, person you can count on in your life who holds the secret of happiness and success. That person looks at you each time you look in the mirror.

That does not mean that there are not evil and greedy people running our companies. But none of us are beholden to anyone unless we choose to be. I choose to fight the incompetence in CCY that infiltrates U. That does not mean those imcompetent people control my life. Moore is a socialist who borders on communist and is getting wealthy filling peoples minds with hogwash.

The way I see it mwereplanes your missing Mr. Moore's point. In fact I see a parallel between both ideas. Like Mr. Moore, I believe that lasting happiness is found from within not from an over reliance on the store bought accessories we use as distractions in life. After all, when you look in the mirror do you want to see your trophies and possessions or yourself for who you are?
