Building a Better Airline: Taking Care of Our Customers
InFlight Café Goes Gourmet
Beginning Oct. 1, US Airways and LSG Sky Chefs will kick off a new era with the InFlight Café program that is offered to our customers on most flights over three hours and thirty minutes. Newly designed fresh food offerings will rotate every two months, including a whole new look and healthier contents for the snackbox. Prices have also been adjusted-- while the snackbox remains at $5, the fresh food offerings will be available for $7. The InFlight Café snack pack that was $3 has been replaced by the $5 snackbox. For a complete list of these offerings and pictures of the food visit awaCompass and theHub.

Someone want to post the pictures?

It looks like they cut that "End of September" timeframe pretty close with this starting Oct. 1

I couldn't download the pics. They looked good, but I am hoping the meals are as nice and big as the pictures. Many times what the pictures show are not what is. The $5 snackbox has improved dramatically. NOW, just PLEASE put the damnn glassware on the East.

Want to comment on what the food was or what you could tell about it? What is in the snackbox? What are the food offerings....is the $2 increase justified?

AM flights

1. Mini bagel, cheese and peppered turkey with creme cheese and grapes on the side.
2. French toast ham sandwhich with apricote cream cheese and grapes on side.

(guess we got a good deal on grapes)

PM flights

1. Shaved turkey breast, lettuce, cranberry sauce spread and chips.
2. Mandarin orange and chicken salad with rasberry vinaigrette.

All day snack

Bumblebee chichen salad
Wisecracker Partner's roasted
Garlic and rosemary crackers
Fruit and nuts mix
Strawberry fruit bar
Andes chocolatte
Mint chip cookies

All day definitely worth $5. $7 for other items depends on the amount.

Hope this helps.

Also, they are supplying an extra 25%. Apparently they heard our whining. I guess the squeeky wheel DOES get oiled.

its a move in the right direction.... now to see if they will start putting more of the snack boxes on board, and consider a variety like United has (they have 4, and always well stocked).

The new pics look good, but they put them in an Adobe PDF so we can't download them or link them!

As Per the August 2nd About US,

1. September - Premium Beverage Test for Coach (Teas, Energy Drinks, Wine by the glass)

2. Late September/Early October - First Class Meals (Fresh, nutritional, higher-quality meals rotated more frequently and served during expanded/longer windows)

3. October - Buy On Board (Roll out better-quality fresh meals and expanded snack options. Also, provision greater quantities on board)

4. Ongoing - US Airways Club (Upgrade food and beverage choices and make them consistent with onboard offerings)

5. December - Envoy Class (Create a uniquely American experience that travelers seek out on an
American carrier, increase food and wine quality, provide more wellbalanced nutrition, trade “fluffâ€￾ for quality. These enhancements are in addition to new seats, inflight entertainment and other cabin improvements for the B767 fleet.)

6. January - Economy Class Meals (Upgrade transatlantic hot meal options and return to traditional tray service instead of current “meal in a box.â€￾ These enhancements are in addition to the new digital inflight entertainment servers, LCD flat screen monitors, leather seat covers and other cabin improvements on the B767.)

7. January - Inflight Hand Held Devices (Begin accepting inflight purchases using credit cards so customers aren’t limited to only using cash.)

8. January - Service Standards (Create a new set of “business casualâ€￾ company-wide service standards to establish customer service consistency.)

9. January though April - Service Training (Effectively communicate and train a new standard of customer service.)

10. March - Travel Like Customers Program (Evaluate the customer’s experience from beginning to end by deploying a team of part-time employees dedicated to traveling like customers, measuring their travel experience on US flights and providing feedback to marketing, senior management and operations for areas for improvement.)

11. Ongoing - Aircraft Cleanliness & Condition (Upgrade the interiors of our older aircraft, create consistently branded interiors fleet-wide and determine processes that need to be improved to help us better maintain our aircraft over time and between turns.)

There ya go.....lets just see if they can stick to the timetable and stick to actually trying to make the necessary changes to this airline

So we can check off #3. First class meals should be following soon. And I flew yesterday and heard that some flights in the West were doing the premium beverage test in Y with "better quality wines for $7/glass and energy and coffee drinks for $5". So technically (even though I don't think anyone here has confirmed it), we can check off #1. Didn't catch whether people were actually buying them, though. I was on Republic.....don't know if Express flights would eventually get premium beverages if they decide to adopt it.

I have to admit these selections look good and a nice improvement. But here are two dissapointments and Tempe if you are reading please consider my coments. I had read they where going to increase the serving time window, and they did by 30 mins from 1930 to 2000 departures. Yes and improvement but should have been 2100 or at least 2030. I can't imagine taking a westbound transcon to Vegas leaving the east coast at say 2030-2045 at night for a 5 hour flight and getting a bag of pretzels in coach and a snack basket in First. Secondly I thougt they where going to offer service on somewhat shorter segments? The meal selections are still showing flights over 3 and 1/2 hours. However the snack box does say over 2 and half hours, does this mean there will be some sort of reduced First Class meal service on flights over 2 and 1/2 but under 3 and 1/2 hours? Sure hope so.

Regards

Nice to see something positive.

NOw that it is food that people will want, I hope they plan to stock the AC better.

Republic doesn't fly for the west and does not have Inflight Cafe. When the 170s belonged to US they offered Inflight Cafe on longer flights but this stopped when they sold the planes to RP. PSA may have had IFC at one point too.

These items look a lot better. They should cycle them every three months or so for variety. The snack box looks much better in particular. I'm sick of the chips and salsa and tired of sitting on melted muncho cunchos or whatever.
