Horton promoted to President of AA and AMR

Why do I have visions of Carty's departure in 2003 all over again with the announcement of Horton as president.

1. Put in place sellout agreements.

2. Spread fear to make them vote it in.

3. Come up with some BS to get the workers focused on something other than the bloodbath that just took place.

4. Throw CEO under the bus.

5. Bring in the new guy to run the place.

6. Come up with new slogAAns to rAAlly behind.

7. Short term memory takes hold of workforce.

8. When the contract is up - repeat.

The TWU is currently done with step 1 and 2, and step 5 is ready to go. :p

He could be straight forward but if your Union Leadership signs confidentiality agreements then you and I will still not know what straight forward looks like.
You or any other union official that signs or subscribes to confidentiality agreements aren't representing the masses. You have obviously been drinking the same drink that the other self righteous International reps drink while living it up on our dues.

I don't see how the current situation is anything like when Carty left. He caused a scandal and got a polite shove out the door! I may not always like Arpey and his decisions, but I haven't heard of him doing anything like what Carty did.

This decision spells the beginning of the end for Arpey. Somebody must be the fall guy for the lackluster performance and it will be him. He is running the corp and he has done a terrible job. No vision at all, just the ability to move money around. Unfortunately not an "airline guy", unfortunately neither is Horton. I find it interesting the timing of the announcement to occur just prior to the TWU vote on the heals of a mere $11m loss.. The rank and file lost faith in Arpey a long time ago, now the analysts and now the board. I say good riddance!!

I can only hope for the future of the company that Horton can make decisions that will turn the company around. I'm not so sure though. I see more of the same BS decisions from someone from the same crew that Carty led.

Horton was chief negoiator and incharge of mergers and acquisitions during the ATT,SBC merger. Im quite sure many jobs were eliminated in the process. Time will tell !!!!!

Tex-Mech's analogy has merit. While no apparent scandal is known, the compAAny has a plan and it does include mind games. I believe to this day Carty's mea culpa was part of the big picture to sell three draconian contracts. I also believe that the timely promotion of Horton and his carefully planted seeds of disdain for labor, has a purpose.

Horton was promoted to President of AA and AMR:

I predict that Horton will be replace Arpey within a short time. Horton is clearly head and shoulders above Arpey in abilities and the past few years have revealed the mistake that the Board (primarily Brennan) made when Arpey was tapped to replace Carty.

I heard the steam room attendant from HQ said his boss calls him "Chop Chop".
