As a RJ Capt looking for another job, I would like to know if it is worth making the switch.

A little background, I know alot of people here (Easties) and they are all fantastic people. I know the management sucks but the pilots and Fa's make this a desirable place to work. I know the pay sucks and I would end up being a PHL commuter. In the long run though could it really be that bad for another 10 years, it has to get better. I think USAPA is a step in the right direction toward this place getting back to what it was 20 years ago when you could bomb around in a -9 or a 3 holer and have a great QOL and pay. If you were in my shoes, (take all your angst aside against AAA) what would you do??

If you are hired in time to vote for USAPA then, yes, you should definitely come work for USAir! Even if you think Nic was correct.

But if ALPA stays then you should quickly go to JetBlue because you will be senior to the United or Delta pilots when JetBlue merges with them.

I'm not a pilot.....but I can promise you this:

I would NEVER, EVER go to work for a company as "Top Down Managed" as US Airways. My life and freedom are worth far too much.

And I do have first hand knowledge, I promise. ;)

All you managers out that are control freaks, take your jobs and shove them RIGHT up your arse!

It feels good to be unemployed. Over 4 years of gainful, unemployment.

I would rather dodge a control freak now and then ... than to be one ...... they are sick humanbeings, their lives suck day and night ...... even their own families hate them .....

Oh God, never. Wait for a pilot strike, there should be one in a few months. You can always cross the line and walk right in to a capt. job.

I know guys at CAL who went on the very first day of the strike and got jobs. They now fly the big planes and alpa welcomed them right in.
Unions are outdated anyway. Look out for number one! Don't be fooled by all that stuff about brotherhood. The people you fly with are not going to look out for you, alpa won't look out for you so you got to grab all you can and when you can.

If you don't know the reason why things are different than they were 20 years ago, then you should really educate yourself and decide if you even want to stay in this industry. ALPA's only involvment with the lowering of the bar was their pursuit of commuter pilots which lead to the support of RJs at commuters. You didn't see the connection between agreeing to fly an RJ and it's effect on your getting a good mainline job.

What's wrong with retiring where you're at?

I'm unclear as to what you mean by the pilots and F/A's make it a desireable place to work. If a large group of your fellow pilots were bent on making things miserable, putting the company in jeopardy and prolonging the hardship they are facing just so they can finally "win one" at the expense of their fellow employees, why would you say this is desireable?

I think you should do your homework on USAPA and see if these are the types of folks you want to be bothered by for the remainder of your career. I'm not saying that ALPA is the gold standard of unionism, but they sure beat a group whose sole platform is revenge.

I fully agree with your take on the people here. Said people and the views out the window are pretty much all that keeps me here anymore.

My honest suggestion would be to toss out all possible resumes to FedEx/SWA/UPS. I think that freight's the best deal currently going, and is likely to stay that way. SWA may well be in for some lumps in the future, but looks good now...which is all any of us can ever really judge from. If nothing else is open...give it a shot and see what you think while always looking for something better. Life's to be enjoyed..not "endured".

That's easy you pitifull twit ;) = They're great people on the whole...I wouldn't expect you to understand that with your rather interesting, and highly flexible/"me-centric world view ;)

That's the best advice I've seen yet......

Unless US is the only non-RJ carrier you care to work for, take a job here if you get the chance but keep your options open by having applications in at other "big" airlines and keeping them updated.

Assuming that you've still got a lot of years in the industry ahead of you, there's absolutely no way of knowing which will be the "best" carrier to work for by the time your retirement years are approaching. At various times in the past, the pilots of Braniff, Eastern, Pan Am, TWA, even People's Express and the like, all thought they had the world by the tail. All you can do is take a job with a "major" when you can, keep those options open until age/time with the carriers pretty much locks you in, and hope for the best.

Or get a real job where your compensation is based on your performance and not your pimp.

I would not work at this company (again) if you paid me a million bucks. It's so messed up operationally and now employee wise that its gone beyond petty; it's affecting people emotionally. Do you honestly want to fly on a plane where the pilot is so pissed off they can barely think straight? What do you think is going to happen with people that upset? I won't say it, but we all know what this leads to. Hell, I wouldn't be surpised in the least if the FAA gets involved in this pilot mess.

I would have to disagree with You on this point. EVERYONE that I have had the pleasure to work with has been PROFESSIONAL in every respect. No one has a kind word to say about the Management (they are actually the JOKE Within the Company) but I would say most employees are pretty compassionate towards each other and are willing to help out whenever called upon. In terms of Customer Service, most people Do what they have too (nothing more, nothing less). Regardless of the airline (and I fly many of them) employee issues are the same.........employees at US are unique though- thoroughly Battle tested and capable of achieving almost anything (providing it can be beneficial to themself at some point). Listening to Corporate rhethoric and being koolaid drinking cheerleaders is a CHOICE made by FEW.
