Could be BS but heard from a friend in the white house today they are going to announce the closing of AFW this Friday. This is for informational purpose only and not trying to start another rumor. It's just what I heard from the source.

Oh well I guess AA will have to send all of DFW drop ins to Tulsa !!
And I guess they will have to send weather diversions to tulsa as well !!
What BS !!

It only makes sense. Tulsa leaders have told AA they build whatever hangar space they need if they should decide to close a base. Horton was quoted saying we don't need 2 maint. bases.

AA Parent Company Circulates Internal Memo Hinting Of Layoffs

DFW INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (CBSDFW.COM) – On Tuesday, the CEO of American Airlines’s parent company, The AMR Corporation, issued an internal memo that hinted at layoffs.

In the letter, AMR CEO Tom Horton wrote, “Today, we are announcing an initiative through which we will redesign American’s management structure to ensure we are positioned for a successful future.”

FYI.., Fort Worth mayor said that she would work with AA in anyway AA needs them too , also to add Fort Worth already gave an option to AA to build a state of the art new hangar next to the existing one ... SO !! I guess we will have to wait and see... I still never understood why you would have a maintenance base in tulsa so far away from there main hub at DFW ... To me this never made any sense at all ,BUT that's my opinion ...And I'm aware of all the incentives Tulsa gives AA..

On e big reason is the existing Plating Shop. I have been told that current E.P.A restrictions prohibit building of such a facility elsewhere.

Landing Gear overhaul uses this plating shop heavily and is succesful, and becoming more so as time goes by.

The Tulsa overhaul base exists because after WWII, there wasn't much use for that old aircraft plant, so AA took it over in 1946, long before it had a huge Texas presence. Location not too bad, sorta in the middle of the country. And as Informer points out, it's no doubt been a source of ground poisoning over the decades - it might be difficult or impossible to recreate anywhere else due to environmental laws.

That may very well be more truth than conjecture.
IMHO, that's why the UAL SFO MOC exists today. After 75 years of aircraft maintenance, UA would have to level all buildings and remove 30 feet (deep) of contaminated soil.
As they say "Cheaper to Keeper'...

From a logistical standpoint DFW would be the best location for an overhaul facility......DWH is on DFW property, that's probably staying put. And, IF I was in charge I would close both Tulsa and AFW, and build on DWH. DFW has lots of room for more hangars....and Fort Worth, the city, will be more than happy to accomodate AA if they continue to employ thousands in North Texas. And, I would farm out anything involving EPA.

I'm just saying!!!!!!

And seeing that AFW's ontime performance is currently at 104% and with Tulsa way below that, they will need to get ready for late airplanes.

There is a lot of land across Mingo RD. east of the TUL maintenance base that is likely a suitable Hangar location.
