facility closures or consolidation

Anyone know whats up with the floating 767 C-CK line. I think it started at AFW, then MCI for a few months, now I've heard DFW is refusing to do the work...tell me it ain't so..
<_< ------ We've heard the same thing here, but can't believe they are refusing to do the work. There has to be a story behind this! Although a second 767-C chk is scheduled in here shortly! The 767 winglets showed up here today for the proto-type. All eleven ft. of them! ------ Heard rumors that top management are highly pissed at AFW, and may take some of the work out of there! Although TASEL will stay! Biggest negative with AFW is the rent paid to Ross Parot, and the fact that they have to dead head Aircraft in and out of AFW. Let's hope we all get through this in one peace! Although that may not be too realistic at this point!

Well the story behind it is to keep the bases and the line divided, that's not news, its the same old TWU/AA tactic. As far as upper management being pissed at AFW, that wasn't what Admiral Fred stated in his last base meeting, AFW is the only base below budget according to him. Of course he stated that we have to "work smarter", meaning faster....better......cheaper while we have no direction or support from management, and 5 years of life altering concessions.

Most the 767's are very corroded when they get to AFW for a heavy, a 767 was so bad a few weeks ago the mechanics pulled a stringer out without removing any of the Hy-locks. Does this level of corrosion happen in the time period of 18 months between checks? I think not. Either the cargo area were never inspected by MCI at all, or the MCI personel performing the inspections do not know what that white powdery stuff all over the stringers is. Management seems to think these junkers can be repaired on time, and they cannot, many of the experienced mechanics have left the hanger and the management support is nearly nonexistant.

As as eolesen stated, AFW is green and fairly modern. Investing in a polluted base is not in the budget, but of course stranger things have happened at AA.

<_< ------ Hackmen, Don't get your tailfeathers up! I did say "Rumor"! As to what really happens, we'll have to wait and see how this all plays out! As for what Capt. Fred said, he was here too. We got the same "work smarter speech", drove around with his charts in the back of a pickup! Sound familiar? As for the corrosion, they've got us tearing apart the cabin, ( galleries and lavs.) on the 757's, along with doing the Winglets. We're finding a lot of corrosion also! Hey Guy! don't be blaming us for what your finding! We're finding the same with the 757's, and we haven't been doing the heavy "C" checks on them! Besides we've only done one heavy "C "checks on the 767's since well before the 763 CIP's! And that's been recently! As for eolesen------ He hasn't been on-board for this "crisis'! What he says is true, but the price of fuel wasn't anything near what it is today when he was working for AA! And, AA didn't have that Delta Hanger at DFW either, to say nothing about the $43 million a year AA is paying Uncle Ross in rent for that place! I understand UPS is snooping around also!!!

MCI, what does the current crisis have to do with all the fuel, oil, glycol, solvents, and other contaminants that weren't properly captured & disposed of at TUL & MCI over the past five decades?....

The rumors about UPS and FDX snooping around have been going 'round for at least ten years.

<_< ------ Not a thing Olesen! I'll put it in words that AA used in 2003! AA, and the Airline Industry have had a "Par-din Shift"! Fuel is King! If you can believe what AA is trying to tell us, it is that everything is on the table! They are looking to save money in any, or all, means possible! And a facility that is costing them XXX amount, no matter how modern, or "Green" they have to take a second look at! -------Listen, this is all speculative! Let's see how this all plays out! I've simply stated what I've heard on the floor here at MCI! Take it for what it is, or leave it!!!!

Now if you said Fed-ex, you might have a story. UPS, which has a decent size operation at DFW had the first shot at the Delta hangar, and for a heck of a lot less than the $43 million a year you claim it cost for AFW. So if they weren't interested in the Delta hangar, why would they want to ferry planes to AFW for a lot more rent money? <_<

No tailfeathers up here MCI, they were burnt off a long time ago by the twu/aa conglomerate. You didn't see all my sentences end in a series of !!!!!! did you? I saw part of the Admiral Fred show, (we call him "admiral" because any West Point grad that only made captain in a long Navy career leaves one to wonder why) and had to walk away to keep from vomiting from amount of BS spewed forth. I don't think he knows what he stepped into.

As far as the 767 corrosion problem, I believe the cargo open up's were peformed at MCI according to the paperwork I saw. The cargos were apparently opened up and then closed up soon after. Major innergranular corrosion doesn't happen in 18 months, it takes years. If the interiors are corroded like you stated, then you can bet the cargos are worse. Don't let the threat of; "Get the aircraft out on time or we're gonna be mad and close the station". Do the maintenance as required by the book, no matter how long it takes. If it's late, so sorry.

I also don't understand what "crisis" your speaking to. If management has $300+ million to blow on themselves during the front line employees' 5 years of life altering concessions, there is no crisis.

If the ship is sinking, then down she goes!!!! Nothing you or I can do when we have greedy, inept management that seems not to care. No crisis at Centerpork, except for which new Mercedes or mansion to buy next.

You should know this better than I from you years at TWA.

<_< ---- Hackmen, We agree on most points. I've got a bad habit of using !!!, so Ill try and refrain from doing so! The corrosion we're finding is below the fwd. and aft galley floor boards and lav's. And is extensive. But Also we've found that four of six 757 cabin door emergency pneumatic assist bottles were well over a year over the expiration date! This is the second Aircraft in a row we've found in this condition. ------ Now. If you haven't noticed, the "crisis" I was referring to has to do with the price of fuel. You know, that stuff you put in your gas tank on your pickup every so often! And I was referring to All the Airlines. Now you can go back to sleep and say this is nothing to worry about. Just more of Management's spin on contract talks. But the fact of matter is if nothing is done about it, this will be a whole lot different place come next spring. ------ Let's see if I'm wrong! And yes, threats don't impress us much around here any more. The plane will be ready, when it's ready. Management knows that. No threats made here. How do you threaten a man who's been in this business longer than most Management types are old?
