facility closures or consolidation

Whoa, Jim.

I don't think mike757 meant it that way at all. He may not even be an F/A. STL is teeny compared to what it once was. Many of the ground crews were bounced out of there during the downsizing. It is not an AA vs. TWA post.

As for BOS, it is bigger than SLT when you factor in International. Their DOM headcount is almost exactly the same as SLT. Their current DOM bid sheet has 11 more lines than SLT.

I used to be based in BOS and the similarities and camaraderie are identical to STL. Both work extremely well as "Focus" cities. BOS just has more airlines fighting for the same piece of pie.

I'm not sure how they determine the cost-effectiveness of bases. Do they factor in how much it would cost to layover crews to cover early morning flights? Maybe eoleson can shed some light on that.

Give me the same and I will change my No to a YES

I'll go along with that. Count me as a "yes" if that happens.

I don't really understand why they can't just print up a bunch of stock and give it to us; hey, that's what the execs do.

I used to say that issuing a lot of stock only to be sold would dilute the value of the present shareholders' investment but I've been told by more than one person I was wrong about that, so what the hell? Let's go for it!

Now granted, we're don't have our heads in the ozone as the executives do so we probably shouldn't get as much stock to sell as them, so maybe, say, 100,000 shares each? Vesting on the issue date? Wow, man - what if we kept the stock? Would we own the company?

Oops - I just woke up.

No. Instead they are going to give you a free hot dog, some chips, and a lovely "Pull Together, Win Together" pin to wear proudly on your uniform.

I'll pass on the hot dogs - they'd probably buy the cheap ones stuffed with snake feet and chicken lips.

Good luck to you guy's at AA, I'm afraid we'll be seeing may cuts at the other carriers soon!!! But good new's is on the way BUSH'ES stimulas checks should be arriving any day now!!!  I don't know where I'll spend it all, I think I feel a DRUNK COMING ON!!!  GOOD LUCK TO YOU GUY'S!!!!!!!!

Current Job Security date is 9/24/1998...you are safe.

The reason MCIE will be closed is because of job security clause loopholes and the fact that most of them with job security will NOT re-locate.

900-1000 easy targeted heads
<_< -------- You may be right informer! Only time will tell. But remember if AA goes into bankruptcy, our contract won't be worth a hill of beans, and your "protection", worth even less!!!!

Oops, I was under the impression that we were discussing cuts coming this fall without Bankruptcy Protection. I did not realize we were disucssing another threat of Bankruptcy or Actual Filing.

If you are simply reminding me that this company and my union can screw me over, then all I can say is I told you so. That is exactly what we have been trying to tell you TWA/MCI folks since we had AMFA organizing meetings at your local Hotel. I have spent 25 years learning and fighting that fact, so thanks for that reminder but it wasn't really required.

Bears, it ain't over yet.... I still say the 762's will be the next to go. They're ancient...

I could see STL shrinking, but not enough to outsource.

SJU? Yep. As the A300's get retired, they downsize the station because it will make more sense to fly to the islands nonstop instead of trying to run connections. Plus, PR has fairly restrictive workplace laws that make it an expensive station to operate.

Dolara will eventually retire (or pass away in office...), and when that happens, the Caribbean loses its godfather. As the economy tanks, people won't be taking those week long trips to the all-inclusive resorts. There will always be the VFR traffic, but I can easily see them being priced out as well.

Not sure how many of what are left there? Real AA employees? Just FYI, as far as f/as are concerned at the time most of them were furloughed, the former TW f/as were drawing paychecks that said AMR Corporation on them, and they were paying dues to the APFA. I think that legally that makes them AA employees. Don't you?

Ditto for all the gate agents, rampers, mechanics. They are all AA employees.

As far as closing STL. I wouldn't bet on it. There is a lot of business there. The station makes money. NHBB, since you are convinced that BOS is perfect, just thought you might like to know that one of the current rumors is that the f/a base at BOS is being closed. After all, they are a smaller base than SLT.

Ah,.....EXCUSE me jimntx, but YOUR sarcasm was NOT called for,...and I feel that you are WAY out of line with your total response !!!!

I Never want to see any AA Union work place eliminated, I've STATED that numerous times !

I was RESPONDING to a suggestion that SLT..."may" be closed, (perhaps you "may" read, or re-read the verbage in this case) !

With the latest announcements, in understandable that YOU "may" be NOT getting enough sleep lately.
And it might be more beneficial to the thread(for all) if you responded with Logic, rather than Emotion !

I've heard good things about Ambien CR.

I wonder if any upper management positions will be eliminated. Company seems to brag about AA's superior MD/Director to employee ratio. Well, If AA is getting rid of some 6,000 jobs, It would seem to to me about 20 upper management positions should go also. Where to start? How about MD Diversity Strategies? If a company is shrinking, diversity is irrelevant. How about HR? Less employees means less HR. How about corporate security? If they can't fly or maintain the planes who needs them. You could get rid of 2 floors of Centreport and it would be 2 weeks before anyone would notice..

I'll second that motion. Get rid of them political correctness groups and or departments. Talk about a complete waste of resources.

Since I was recalled in Nov. 2004, the "nAAtives" around here have been saying STL is being closed if the wind changed direction. I'm sure this has nothing to do with the fact that with the exception of the f/a base, the great majority of STL employees are former TWA. That thought seems to be pervasive throughout the company. I'm tired of it.

By the way, you needn't worry about my ability to sleep. I sleep just fine. I was looking for a job when I found this one. If this one goes away, I will find another one. Why don't you try finishing some sentences before you carom off to your next "rah-rah Bob Crandall was a saint" harangue.

AA will spend millions again on another consulting group full of college graduates to evaluate the management ratio again. Then AA will hire more managers to oversee the reduced number of union workers with low moral.

Don't hold your breath -- I'm sure there will be a few VP retirements, and a few MD retirements. But 20 heads? Quite unlikely. You can't use a flat 1:300 ratio to decide how much of the overhead to cut out.

Whether you have 450 aircraft or 650, you'll still need a corporate finance department, payroll, revenue accounting, labor relations, policies/procedures, legal, etc. If you compared the size of those departments at WN and AA, they're probably about equal in size. Yet the number of total employees is about half that of AA.

If you eliminate or outsource an entire division, like Cargo or M&E, you could probably see corresponding cuts in management. Cargo probably accounts for well over 100 management plus at least 1000 TWU. IT alone is something like 1000 people at AA, and Res is another couple thousand. It would lower the quality of what you get and/or cost more, because the outsourcing companies want a 10-20% markup that airlines can't seem to get on their own product.
