United Airlines and its flight attendants union have agreed to a buyout plan that will enable up to 600 flight attendants to leave the company voluntarily.

The plan announced Friday applies to flight attendants who are at least 45 and have spent 15 or more years with United. Participants will be entitled to severance payments and retiree travel benefits.

Its a shame they are limiting it to 45 and older.

Hope they give something like this to the mechanics. I'm ready to move on and get a career change. I've had it with an airline career.

Here is the conundrum.
To accept retirement (early or not) one has to have the belief that the ‘Company’ will not eject the little remaining health care benefits in BK II. Watching the last fiasco with ‘implied’ promises and then the ‘shaft’ of retirees beating the June 2002 ‘threat’, I doubt there will be any takers unless UA makes some promise that they will not be able to keep once again.

True, that UA wants to shed their obligations, but most assuredly, it will be on the cheap and a promise that will be mitigated by the BK judge.

Best to You and Yours!

Take Care,
B) UT

Pat Friend took the early out.:blink:

I guess we should be seeing a new president soon.

It will probably be a cronie of hers. :(

<_< <_< Pat worked VERY hard for many years for AFA. She should be thanked for her dedication and work on behalf of ALL of AFA. With that being said, it is LONG overdue for new blood at AFA. As well is a new campaign and upgrade of the UNION. I hope the new president has guts , intelligence, style and more of a positive attitude. AFA has been full of gloom and doom for too many years.
Best of luck to all that accept the buyout- it was THE SMARTEST thing I ever did. Absolutely no regrets. Safe flying and peace to some of the greatest flight attendants- UAL!

Are you out of your mind? Are you high? Are you PAT? Because I don't know of a single United FA (you know the ones that actually FLY) that would say that.
