Expert: Airline Has '50-50' Chance

It needs to be standard procedure to inform the passenger VERBALLY about the new bag weight limits when they purchase a ticket throught Res. Something like..."Please remember that you are allowed only two bags to check per person. Up to 50 pounds there is no extra charge, between 50 and 70 the cost is $25.00, and over 70 pounds the charge is $80.00. These rules are being strictly enforced at the airport." Now I know this would add to the call times, but just think about the money it would save in other areas. If this is already being done I haven't heard about it. If they never talk to a person over the internet, than they need to put it in bold print on top of their new itinerary they receive in the mail. Some airports do not weigh every bag. Many do not even have a ticket counter scale (imagine that?). Regardless, the public needs to be educated. They are still bringing their bookshelves and kitchen sinks.

And other carriers use kiosks to make the operation smoother, and maybe eliminate a few positions. US Airways is making thier remaining employees badger customers into using them when they dont want to.
Believe it or not, US isn't the only airline doing that. NW is doing it, too.

What needs to happen is that airline passengers need
to learn to pack lightly. There is absolutely no reason
why someone needs to take 2 fully loaded bags on
a 1 week vacation to Orlando or Nassau. NRSA pax
have learned that packing light is the way to go, and
taking 1 piece of carry-on luggage can certainly get you
through 4 or 5 days of a trip. People who think they have
to take everything they own when they go on vacation
are in serious need of professional help. It's just plain
stupid to take 2 fully loaded bags. And another thing,
passengers need to stop complaining about their
trips. They should be happy they are able to travel
as cheaply as possible and be thankful they get to
their destination in a reasonable period of time. I'm
sick of passengers feeling like they're entitled to
perfection every time they buy their $98 round trip
ticket to Orlando. Take the bus for crying out loud.
It costs the same and fits more in line with your
expectations......

That's right. Blame the customer. Never mind that the same customer isn't a PAWOB on B6 or WN, just on US. Must be the customer's fault, right?

Or take B6 or WN. Why bother with US when they can get the service they want at the price they want, right?

Look, it's silly to suggest that customers of any business should have expectations that paying more and getting less is the path to satisfaction. Customers will always be drawn to greater value. That means getting more or paying less, or a combination of the two. I'd be hard pressed to believe that you make your purchasing decisions in a different fashion.

Well SpinDoc,

I agree with all of your points except for one. If I'm a paying customer I have the RIGHT to demand what is purchased. The contract of Carriage & Fare Rules must be adheared to.

$98 to Orlando? Did I set the price that Airways charges? If Airways is dumb enough to put a GoFare of $185.20 PHL to LAX, give me the upgrade and a total of 19,208 Dividend Miles then I'm smart enough to take it! I might do a couple "Mileage Runs" this summer.
Hold on, not that I disagree with you but I have surely read in here that the marketplace sets the fares and I was nearly brainwashed into believing it.

Dang fooled again.

You have the right to pay taxes and die and God will determine when and how you die without any input from you, so piney, you don’t have as many rights as you imagine but go ahead and keep dreaming until somebody wakes you up.

Indirectly, they do. Directly, US does. So it's all a matter of perspective.

So its a matter of perspective and maybe perception depending what side you on or how you want to use the information?

Shoot I am now so confused

Reminds me of those poor employees who were confused and had to revote.

Leave it to you to confuse me more. Its a conspiracy I tell you and I got bilsters on my fingers

Well, now, isn't that true about pretty much anything???

Justme,

A little about Merick Masters....

He's an author by profession and is also a Labor Law Professor on the Graduate level at the University of Pittsburgh. He has written two books on unions. One that I've started reading called "Unions at the Cross Road" published 1997.

He writes academic journals and is interviewing all the USAirways labor union leaders for another academic jounal on (get this) USAirways Labor Relations. He is interested in The negotiation process of Concession #1 and #2 and also #3.

He is currently interviewing the labor leaders of U.

He is also a very intellectual, soft spoken, articulate gentlemen with 4 children and his oldest is in the war in IRAQ.

You think he could wait till #3 is done?

Hey wait maybe he could tape it and we could get a copy for old times sake that would be really neat. Maybe make a documentary on how USAirways went down the drain. If he was only here 10+ years ago.

The question is can you finish reading the books before its all over?
