Emergency landing after row of seats comes loose

The worthless union frequently lies, but now all of a sudden we're supposed to take the TWU's words at face value? Sorry, liars. It don't work that way.
My question is, does AA currently have QC Reps at Timco to accept the work performed there? If they bought off on work done, and it was not to spec, why accept it and why didn't they catch it?

Historically, American Airlines and TWU led the industry in maintaining work in house.
And "historically" the TWU has turned a blind eye to accountability within the mechanic ranks instead of weeding out the incompetent. The chickens have come home to roost as we see the value of keeping work "in house" has diminished.

The problem may not be with the seats themself's, but with the seat tracks that they are secured to. The tracks corrode, and the corrostion can be ground off. There are limits to the amount metal that can be removed, and where on the track it is located, before the track has to be replaced. Which, may I add, can be a major, and time consuming job. ----- Maybe those limits need to be revaluated ?

Or. since they were repositioned maybe the rear cleats are one set of tracks while the front is in another.

Seats are idiot proof, if you know how to install them. Timco sent us an RB211 a few months ago because they failed to seat the new style radial drive to the stub shaft of a gearbox. Long story short, it shot hi-pressure oil in areas that should not be lubed. The F-up's go on and on. How much money are you really saving AA?

The MD-80 seat tracks are abysmal corrosion hogs (as I spent countless hours on my knee's grinding) in comparison to the Boeing tracks, which I never see the 737 structure guys grind on. The 757's are probably just as corrosion resistant.

Let's stop second guessing our maintenance, we have never had a problem with seats not being locked down! Now we have 6 confirmed A/C that have seats that were NOT installed properly, I hope the APA brings this up in their negotiations.

Guess it's not all timco's fault:

Either someone screwed up or there's a mechanical defect with the seats and/or tracks. At this point, the company (which has been known to stretch the truth) is saying that both Timco and Tulsa have removed and reinstalled the seats.

Gless at the TWU and the Tulsa local are both saying (and I'm paraphrasing) "Nobody here at AA Tulsa touched the seats until they were reported as loose - it's all Timco's fault and it's AA management's fault for thinking that non-AA mechanics could ever do anything competently. We've said it over and over again - outsourced maintenance is unsafe."

AA management has a lot at stake and no doubt would like to see this pinned on everyone but AA themselves. And you'd have to be brain-dead to ignore the anger among the thousands of AA AMTs at the news that AA is going to join UA, CO, DL, NW, US and WN in outsourcing some maintenance that has previously been performed inhouse. Some of those AMTs can hardly contain their glee that AA's first outsourcing efforts (the Timco 757 heavy C checks followed by a simple seat re-pitch) have been such apparent failures.

What are the odds that AA's first outsourced re-pitch project results in massive failure by the employees at Timco?

The 763 re-pitch is being performed by outsourced maintenance at SAN; any word about 763 seat rows being loose?

If Timco techs were the only people to remove and reinstall these seats, then they and someone at AA screwed up. Does the NTSB get involved in the investigation or is their involvement limited to injury/fatality cases?

Both the Int'l and Local 514 have put out legitimate statements. If you would take a break from this blog you might find out what's going on on the real world!

I don't give a rat's a$$ what these idiots say. To little to late. They have fail to represent us for so long and yet you still show support for them? Really, Hewitt was on camera trying to sell this contract, gets his name in the hat for the intl after it passes, and then is crying to the media "this isn't what they told us" after the hammer fell. That's one of the last people I would trust from TWU. All these guys are crying foul while the Larry Pikes, Bob Owens, Gary Petersons and the rest of them have all told us what would happen if this went through. So you see, I would rather trust the people that stand up for us and try to look out for us by informing us on what could/would happen. Like them or not they have been fighting while the TWU has been lying and selling us down the river. Outsourcing is a very big deal and I don't like our jobs going out the window w/o a fight. To have a "union" that lets that happen is a crying shame. I don't care if the AA is BK or not you don't ever give up like the TWU did on us. EVER!! So if that's the type of union you want to be in go ahead and continue to support them and vote yes but I'm not going to. So why don't you wake the F-up and see what's going on in the "real" world. TWU has sold us out and you still can't see that, wtf is wrong with you? Really, how much of the kool-aide have you drank?

BTW..wait untill the BS with separating the line locals from O/H locals gets you. Good luck with that one. Can't wait to see all the tears that will flow over that.

Jay Leno, The Tonight Show, Oct. 2, 2012:
“American Airlines has a new slogan: ‘Your seat is free to move about the cabin.’

“You hear about this? For the second time, the second time this week, on American Airlines, a row of seats that wasn’t bolted down went sliding around the cabin. I think it’s deliberate. This is the airline trying to shake all the loose change out of your pocket.”
