After seeing the EMB170 up close and personal yesterday, I have no clue how they can call this an Express Aircraft. We all know why they do, but this aircraft is far from Express. With the Full size cabin (the over head bins were a little small), roomy interior, range of over 2000nm and the speed of this bird it is no way an Express aircraft. This thing is very Big compared to even the CRJ-700. Comair and MDA will both taxiing out and this thing just over shadowed the CRJ. It looks likes a baby Bus. It is ashame that this the future of our Company but damm what a nice aircraft.

I guess that we all will have to set our egos aside and just deal with the fact that someone painted the word EXPRESS on the side of an airplane we fly. Or we may not even fly, but service, or board passengers on, or push, or fix. Its a feable attempt to break down what ever pride you have left, ITS PHSYCOLOGICAL warfare to most of you. To me they won't ever win because I was born and bred Express and I don't see any shame in being an Express pilot. I see shame in being a US Airways employee. It would be nice if all the new airplanes at US Air only said EXPRESS on ther side and left the US AIRWAYS part off.

I have pictures of the interior if anyone wants to see them. The nice ladies at the
US club in PIT took my digital camera and took some pictures when the plane was parked at gate B49 last week. It does look good.

LOL.. if that is what you really want, your dream is right around the corner.

I dont think the original posters comments was directed at Express=Bad, Mainline=Good, but more along the lines of Big plane doesnt = Express branding. If we are going to market the plane as an advantage over the other carriers ERJs and CRJs then the negative impression most people have of an Express or Commuter carrier will likely carry over to this "Express" plane even though it is as big as some of the mainline jets flying for us or other carriers. That is my impression at least. A plane is a plane as far as working it whether its a Beech1900 or 757, but the public perception for "Express" could cost us some customers who dont want to fly on "a propplane" and how many TAs (or online booking agents) are going to know that a E70 "Express" plane isnt one of those mosquitoes? Its a big jet and should be branded as USAirways period.

Cause they dont use mainline mechanics, thats why:

Mid-Atlantic Airways
12-13 Mechanic positions
Fax Resume to 412-472-1038
A.S.A.P

Folks, I'm sure you all know U has not even begun to reap the benefits of bringing this new aircraft into the fleet......Seems to me management is dragging their feet on getting the 170 into the air...Could it be they are more concerned on getting into Labor's pocket AGAIN?, knowing full well once they have these aircraft [along with the concessions they ALREADY have] in the air, their "doom & gloom" drivel will go by the wayside...?? I believe this aircraft and [all the concessions that go along with it] will make this airline VERY competitive without the need of any MORE concessions.

I will do that.

One more way to look at this. If main line moving towards smaller planes, why not paint Express on a Jet that does look like a main line aircraft. It could fool the traveling public into accepting the smaller planes.

Not true, Six (6) mainline mechanics were trained Tuesday and Wednesday hands on, on the EMB-170.
