What are the positive and negative reasons for working at Usairways?

Disclaimer: By answering these questions you are not saying you work at Usairways.

Disclaimer: This is a nonscientific poll with a +-100 margin of error, so get over it.

I love the people that I work with but, along with most everyone else in my department, hate the job and what it and this company have become over the last two or three years.

We have absolutely ZERO customer service. The policy now is grab all the money you can in the shortest period of time and to hell with the people that want or need anything else from us but to immediately give us their money. All the while the Gastapo breathes down our necks and paces up and down the aisles watching us like a bunch of concentration camp inmates. We are no longer PERMITTED to give good or even adequate customer service. We are reprimanded for staying on a call for more than 3 minutes, for working on problems or difficult records for more than 23 second, for not transfering passengers all over God's creation, for helping a passenger that comes in on the wrong line that has already been transfered 3 or 4 times that has been on hold for an hour and is frustrated.

NO customer service, collect all the money you can and harass the agents until they quit or are fired! Great place to work and be proud of! NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to be proud to work for U.S. Air. Now I'm ashamed to mention it because I don't want the pitty party for me....

Constant shortage of agents at the airport? Management that screams for on time departures? Leave the non revs behind if it cause delay of flight? 25 First Class stand-bys upset couse they didnt get their free upgrade? Late flights from PHL EVERY DAY with misconect irate psgrs? Screaming people arriving with out their baggage because of "belt Problems" at PHL? Overbooked flights everyday bumping and giving away free tickets? It's like working at the K-Mart on a Saturday afternoon. This ain't Kansas, Dorothy. Welcome to the world of cheap tickets and travel. We're the Bus Station and Mass Transit of the new world of travel. Now management tells us we're all overpaid and have too much seniority and thats the problem with USAir.

I can honestly say the people in my department are longing for the day USAirways shuts down. The vast majority are tired of the waiting game and tired of being lied to. How long do you put your life on hold ?
Most are ready to move on to new ventures.
The morale in my department is absolutely terrible. The overriding feeling is the future of USAirways is not good and most have accepted that.

Kudos to the IAM for refusing to open the contract. I only hope they stick to their guns this time. Enough is enough.

This is the same feeling at most stations. I refuse to give back a dime so that management can put more in their pockets and Bronner can come out smelling like a rose. Either shut this nickle and dime operations down, or get someone who has a passion and knows how to run the airline business.

I agree, it's better than sex, drugs, or rock and roll.

I totally understand. My sentiments exactly. :(

The part I like is when the paycheck comes in the mail.

It's bigger than any other company will give me to do this job.

I go to work to make money, not to have fun or to be entertained. I try to give to people who supply the money (the customer) a reason to come back.

Some people are blinded by rage because in the past they made more.

The flying public does not care how much we used to make, nor should they.

traderjake,

You must have an easy job. The Mechanic's job at U for most of them is lousy and is paid poorly already. If you want to give more then go ahead. The Mechanics are done. You will have to save yourself because the Mechanics will not be doing it. Sorry. It is a crummy job not worth fighting for.

I concur!

Going to work anymore is like working in an environment where there is a cat walk with bosses patrolling with shotguns.

The work is not hard nor are we pushed but the constant looking over your shoulder and making sure that you are not only on time to the second, but also don't dare miss a day least the grim reaper makes a stop at your door.

Forget about getting a vacation day if you don’t have 30 years seniority.

People are being fired almost daily for frivolous things. Some are getting their jobs back but others are sticking and why they keep the hammer down thinning out the troops.

Working here is not only no longer fun, it's a pure drag, ask any sane man, the entire situation reeks of doom/gloom and failure.

Now before all you self righteous employees and may I add NON EMPLOYEES tell me to quit if I hate it that bad, I am doing just that and don't even care if I am making way less, because I will have security and peace of mind which is not to be found at U.

I can hear it now: Then why not take a pay cut and stick around? Because I believe this airline has run its course and all that more give backs will accomplish is prolong the destiny of a doomed airline.

They didn't do squat about the people who were under Dave, they are still here, this sick puppy doesn't have a prayer.

Apologies to the good captain, but I believe I am right and a lot of others do as well, better follow your wife's foot steps and pick up the graduate degree.

Me, I will be fading away to peace and sanity...and THANK GOD!

In some areas the job is taxing on the Mechanics physically as they are getting older.
