Both DL and CO announced TXL service this week. This seems like a city, especially in light of the Star Alliance connections, US should be serving. I would think PHL-TXL would do quite well with the feed on both ends: US in PHL and LH in TXL.

I wonder if it would work to PHL. Perhaps LH would be interested in adding some flights to PHL using PrivatAir like they do to EWR.... If US survives and thrives maybe we'll see SAS, Austrian, and LOT (I know, a stretch) in PHL.

US should have a couple extra widebodies for once come spring with the PIT cuts. Supposedly transatlantic expansion is part of the plan, so maybe they will add a couple cities. I'd still like to see DUB/SNN and GLA year round.

Or, maybe they would finally add some additional service into EWR. But, logical decisions are NEVER made in CCY Marketing............

I'd love that. Ive been twice.

"I hear a rumor CPH(Copenhagen) is in the works.!?"

Haven't you heard that all the widebodies are going to be parked (and the 737's)? The resident seer said so - therefore it must be true...

Jim

As has been said here repeatedly, the widebodies(A330s) will be parked if the savings aren't in place by January.
CO also announced nonstop service to Hamburg today.

Park the widebodies?

Genius. Let's compete only in the domestic market, where we are Tina Turner to Southwest's Ike.

United took over SAS flying of Copenhagen starting in a couple of weeks(and I got one  ) It's only temporary for us though, I think until March. Who else (besides SAS) flys that route?

Given the gross overcapacity in the US airline market, the loss of U would be a be barely a ripple in the pond. Given the overcapacity and overall poor condition of the US air transportation system, letting Lakefield get a free ride from his creditors because of deep and systemic incompetence of U mangement just damages the system even more and will result in more pain, not less. Crandall is right. One BK is bad enough, but U is just milking the system with it's serial bankruptsys.

Copenhagen is a beautiful city. Go see the Carlsburg Brewery, they have free samples at the end. Christiana is neat too, just don't smoke anything. And that mermaid? She's actually really tiny.

Bruce Lakefield told the ALPA MEC that the company wants to expand to Star Alliance European hubs and other key cities. Copenhagen, Oslo, Vienna, Helsinki, are on the radar screen; as well as Birmingham and Zurich.

In regard to widebody aircraft, the company must conserve cash to make key aircraft lease payments in early 2005. Without the interim wage cuts, US Airways may have to reject aircraft leases by November 12, 2004 per S.1110. To help cash flow the company could reject the 9 A330 leases to not pay the upcoming debt and to not conduct heavy maintenance on these jets.

Management desires to maintain the 282 aircraft and even grow the mainline fleet over time, but it can only do so with a competitive cost structure, across-the-board.

Respectfully,

I feigned an interest in the nitty-gritty of beer production and got quite a few samples- I seem to recall stumbling out of the place singing songs after drunkenly buying a hideous T-shirt I never did wear.

In the early afternoon.

There isn't enough of a market in TXL to support two US carriers, and there's probably not even enough to support one.

Different carriers have served TXL at different times since reunification, and aside from LH on TXL-IAD, they've all turned out to be miserable loads and yields. It's the government capitol for Germany, but there aren't any major corporate ties or financial ties to drive traffic to/from Berlin. There's also no connecting opportunities to speak of at Tegal -- that's all over at Berlin/Brandenberg (former Schoenfeld, East Berlin).

The only reason TXL-IAD makes any sense was because it is a capitol to capitol route.
