Well, IAM does stand for machinists, doesn't it?

Yes they do but in fact there are very few†Real Machinist" among the ranks. I am a “Real Machinist†and how I was able to leave U without much difficulty. Funny thing in Pit: the "Real Machinists" are looked down upon by the good ole boys, especially the ones of years gone by. Whenever a "Real Machinist" tried leaving the machine shop and go out and obtain their A&P licenses the good ole boys club made sure every road block was thrown up, and Frank Schifano lead the charge, the other parties responsible have since retired. I don't think that down in CLT they treat their "Real Machinists" that way but accept them for the men they are. That was my personal gripe with the IAM local 1976, it was tainted by a minority. As it's turning out it doesn’t matter if ones has their A&P or not, only 30 plus years seniority matters, and maybe not even that. The IAM does represent many machine shops all over out the country and has for years, where "Real Machinists" live.
Good Luck whether you're “Real Machinist†or not, because working at U requires all the luck you can muster.
Bye Bye my ex mechanic co-workers and "Real Machinistsâ€
