thanks. please make us feel worse about her decision. just kidding! she has relatives in malvern, philly...they offered but obviously she would need a car. even though they offered, we do not want to put them out like that. especially if she is on reserve. so instead of her bumping a junior reserve in philly she decided to go to dc. i do not understand her decision but she said if i was a f/a that i would understand.

The least expensive hotels are the Americana, 800-548-6261, @ $45 per night + tax and this includes a continental breakfast.

The day before arrival the Marriott Courtyard offers a rate through priceline.com of $35 per night + tax.

grounded- yes it is in inverse seniority but since she is junior in pit but is senior at every other base she does have the option of bumping juniors in philly, but i do not understand why she will not. she wants to go to dc...she said she would not appreciate someone doing that to herin pit.

noluv,

Sounds like she has that quaint "Do unto others as you would like them to do unto you" attitude. It's a shame there aren't more like her.

thanks boeing... she is a good girl. i wish i would have met her before my ex wife but thats a whole nother story that i do not have the time to get into.

Good point boeing and noluv. Well she also may be thinking like I'm thinking, she can also hold a block and commute. If your friend is in PIT right now she is most definately senior to me so she basicly studies the bid sheet well she can pick up a commutable line and can make it. As for me I'm kinda like in the borderline between holding a line and being reserve in DCA. I'm keeping my fingers crossed when I get there to see how it goes for me. If not alot of people senior to me come in in this calss in Jan. I think I should be alright, but if there is anyone out there who needs a hand well get in touch with me. I may not know much about DC but we should all give ourselves a helping hand. :)

That is nice she gonna go to DC instead of bumping people out of Philly. That is real rotten that they would even offer that to people to go to philly instead of DC..if they were gonna be in philly they should have already have went along time ago. Hopefully there are more people like her. MAA is gonna start having a turnover rate if they keep this crap up.

I don't understand this thread... but if it's helpful... i"m quite convinced that rents are moderating, if not falling, in DC. Perhaps, this is because folks aren't selling when being displaced, so condo rentals are flooding the market. I think these people should sell. Anyway, a TINY studio rents in my building for $850/month WITH parking, utililites included. That's a steal.

I'm not too surprised, its time rents started to level off in this area, for a while renting was almost as much as a mortgage (mostly thanks to interest rates).

For hotels, Priceline, Priceline, Priceline... you can get some real cheap rates through there...

My wife uses www.homesdatabase.com to keep tabs of the real estate market in No. VA. Everything is so expensive, it is unreal. I grew up in Alexandria and my parents still live there, so if you have any specific questions I can try to answer them. IIRC ITRADE lives in Alexandria too.

I'm not saying that it's not insane, it's just less insane. I talked to a few real estate agents who note that the rental market has peaked, but not the sales market. Surely, it's just a matter of time before properties start coming back into the sales market and moderate prices. I call it 'the Barry effect.' Well, that's what I call it in the District. Mark you calendars for January 2005 as the peak.
