Democrats may block mergers

And even if they did try and overrule the DOT/DOJ on this matter, they'd better have a damn good reason.

Your a little bit slow, so I'll make this real simple. The Bush Administration will not OVERRULE anything. What they will do is RULE. Get it. The decision on this merger will be made by the Bush Administration, since the DOT/DOJ are under the legal authority of that administration. The DOT and DOJ are not independent agencies.

Wow.

FACE IT, Oberstar has already killed this "MERGER".

This would come as a great surprise to Mr. Oberstar.

By the way, Does Delta have an IQ test when they hire pilots?

The Bush Administration controls Transportation, Justice, and the FAA, not Oberstar.

He headed the Aviation Subcommittee when the Dems were in charge prior to 1994. Always a lot of bluster in the press, never had any influence on past mergers and won't now.

Following is a statement from Sen. Chuck Grassley in response to today's announcement that the Department of Justice will file suit to block the United Airlines-US Airways merger:

"The Bush administration provided good news for air travelers today. There is now no question that this administration is serious about preventing airline concentration. This decision helps to promote much needed competition in the airline industry. Competition between the airlines, not concentration, will provide air travelers with lower fares, more choices and better service."
