Delta Flight Museum

Isn't this whole thread about looking back/honoring the past? We are still talking about a museum right?

At any rate, on the back page of DL's "Rules of The Road" it states, "Delta people of today stand on the shoulders of those who came before us."

I personally think that includes all the antecedent carriers like NW, RC, PA, NE, WA, and so on.

WT and the DL uber alles crowd are free to feel otherwise.

And really, what's the harm in painting a tail red, putting a globe on it, or a stylized W?
Agreed. I think US has a great system.
Put Delta on the front and the rest of the plan like NW, or WA, or NE etc.

NO  harm at all kev         why is the 76 ship 102 wrapped up in plastic
Sorry, i forgot to answer, because they doing so much work on hangar 2, including paint, that she would need to be covered or pulled outside. Ship 43 is currently sitting over at the jetbase for the same reasons.

I know you would figure it out.

Never saw it written in a manual but my theory is that DL is forward looking and doesn't heritage liveries precisely because it doesn't want to celebrate the heritage of the carriers that have formed DL.

When I say they are forward looking, it means they look at what DL is today and where they will go.

You are free to debate but I think it is precisely because DL doesn't want to celebrate the heritage of the airlines that have made up DL so DL doesn't celebrate its own heritage except in a museum which has next to no influence on the vast majority of customers or employees.

YMMV

and DL has never failed to affirm the PEOPLE that have made DL... just as they still do.

YMMV

no, I am not a DL spokesman... and if I were, I am sure I wouldn't be saying the things I am saying here.

I am telling you what I believe to be the truth.

I think it is as simple as Delta stated, its all about the brand. They have spent so much money
on the brand they want to keep it simple.  Just like the new emphasis on F/A uniforms.  They want
to sharpen the brand.  All emphasis seems to be in winning the JD Power award.  Whether I agree on
a few painted planes would hurt the "brand" or "confuse" customers is a different story.

Okay. What do you think about the idea of retro planes, then? Would you like it to see one/some? Just asking an opinion, not on whether you think it'll happen or not.

I personally think it would do wonders for morale- you know, "taking care of the people" as WT mentioned.

DL doesn't have to do anything, of course. But for them to claim it would "confuse" the public is disingenuous at best.

.. which is why I don't think it has to do with keeping the brand simple or preserving it.

It, in my honest opinion, means not paying excessive tribute to DL's past because in reality, DL's past includes mergers with a whole lot of other Airlines.

That history has value to DL employees and for aviation fans, but probably doesn't have a place alongside DL's current brand and all DL has built.

Let's be honest and remember that DL's brand past also includes names like Song and Delta Express that DL isn't interested in bringing back to life.

Song or Express wasnt a different airline, it was an airline within an airline using Delta planes and employees, not a total and distinct different airline like PA, RC, WA, NW and others.

yep and DL doesn't have any interest in featuring ANY OF THEM or the sideways widget on any of DL's ACTIVE fleet.

Got it?

Sure does. I'm also willing to bet no one's counting on a West Coast retro livery.

...You mean those same employees that built DL?

Red Herring.

So are you speaking for Marketing now?

Maybe I should contact Morgan since I know him and ask him about you and you're speaking for Delta Employees and the company now.

Got it?
