More info:

From Delta:

Delta will begin recalling 250 pilots starting Oct. 1 who were furloughed as a result of the drop in demand caused by the war in Iraq. Delta plans to complete the recall by the end of 2003, as the company anticipates passenger demand and scheduled capacity will return to planned, pre-war levels by then. After the recall, 1,060 pilots will remain on furlough. Delta regrets the need to furlough any employee, and will continue to focus its efforts on the financial recovery of the company.

From ALPA:
ALPA is pleased that Delta has decided to begin recalls of the pilots who were furloughed during the War in Iraq, with the first group of 45 being recalled on October 1. However, these pilots should never have been furloughed in the first place. We look forward to recall of all of 250 pilots furloughed since April of this year, which management states should occur by the end of the year. We will be going forward with another System Board hearing on October 29 and 30 to challenge any continuation of furloughs allegedly related to the Iraq War and to seek back-pay for all of the pilots furloughed following commencement of the War, including those who are being recalled at this time.

According to Crew Resourses (someone else talked to them), the first 45 will be trained on the 737-200 (no rumor on base). The rest will be unassigned.
