Consistency Is Key

The policy has always been pretzels only after 10AM, contrary to random F/A decisions, and should also be served at night (I've flown with some who said not after 10pm!). Also, full cans are not part of the MidAtlantic product, and the "self-serve" bottle of water and cups atop the Airbus rubbish bins is not a real procedure either... F/As do make some stuff up.

I will also add that the person who Jim quoted is actually a VP--and is actually one of the few I would like to see stay around. He ALMOSTgets it, but I think he's powerless to act on his opinions.

My best to you all......

Jim,
The "Gentleman" in question spent most of RoachFEST looking like a very young deer caught in very bright headlights. He was, to be polite bowled over by the knowledge of airlines in general our membership has, US Airways in particular.

In all fairness he listened intently and made many notes and by all accounts was accessable and responsive after the event. In fairness to those who attended from the US Airways side, they took time on a Saturday to come and at least listen.

The problem is that of the 10 who attended 3 are gone and the other 7 were not part of the crew that is the true power in the organization today. Conspicous in their absense were Ashby, Crellin, Pallidin, Carstairs, Groff, Glass all of whom have proven to be no friend to the customer or near as I can tell, employees either.

Unfortunately the ones who "Get it" aren't the movers and shakers. I can't begin to tell you how many times the FFOCUS board discussed amongst ourselves that we were being "Played" by US and that it was only a matter of time before we ended up in the doghouse.

Surely if they have 21 million for bonuses they must be able to afford pretzels.

CNN is reporting, as of September no more pretzels on US Airways. Are you kidding me? What's next taking out the seats?

Well yes, the seats are heavy and cost fuel. Perhaps they should take out the # of seats based on projected LF . . . (btw, I'm not serious. that's humor.)

its almost to fun working here anymore. I just cannot believe what we are becoming. Who the hell was on this focus group a bunch of cavemen.

Most of the participants had not flown US in a long time or fly them infrequently now. The agenda was set and CCY was looking for confirmation of the validity of their plans. This team has long since proven that the only thing that matters is their bonus. They have no desire to run the airline and are proving it daily.

And before Hawk or the truth or any of the other lipstick wearing members of this management team come on here with the tired excuse they are just trying to save an airline; don't bother. You have failed the employees, the customers, and the equity owners. It's time for you to take your "business acumen" and excuses some where else.

You know, if these pretzles cost us $1 million per year, then with the money CCY has managed to scrounge up for their retention fund (54 million?), we could have purchesed 54 YEARS worth of pretzles for our paying passengers! Please, give Sherry Groff and Stephen Kingsley multi-million dollar bonuses for their brilliance!

Here begins the "SAVE THE DOUGH: Pretzels stay, bonuses go" campaign.

In someways they're pulling an "ALPA-style" move here - give back FC the meals but remove the food from the peons. While its considered a much-welcome return in the world of premium cabin service there is NO excuse to make coach passengers (let alone ANY revenue passenger) feel the wrath. There sure as hell are easier things to cut to get the same amount of cost savings that they think they will with the Pretzel dibatre.

Airlines are perfectly happy to provide the perks people are willing to pay for.

I was called for a focus group a couple of months ago and declined. I also had not been flying much (or as much as I used to do and certainly not as much as a cockroach would do)

What kind of pretzels does your tax accountant serve? Does your plumber bring over a full can of soda for you when he fixes the john? I want my kid's teacher to bring Billy an apple for cryin' out loud!

I think everyone's expectations for what air travel is should be reevaluated (or repriced).

As long as LUV and B6 are serving snacks, that is the expectation (much like they basically set the bar for fares in their markets).

If you are not in the front cabin, there is absolutly nothing to differentiate US from the LCCs. Now, they are lowering the bar below that of the domestic LCCs, and into Ryanair territory.

Your right. Just think for years and years and years Greyhound and Trailways NEVER served anything on their buses.

Humm I wonder why I haven't seen many of those around lately? Oh yeah, I forgot. I was on one this past weekend. It was painted dark blue and had US AIRWAYS on the side.
