CO to join Star

I think Bobbie is right... the oil men in the 37s are flying between IAH and AMS.

Also, I think that the CO/UA hook up in Star makes sense. I swear I posted about the three way relationship UA/US/CO, but I've given up trying to find my past posts here. You wouldn't think it would be that hard.

Also, I think that the CO/UA hook up in Star makes sense.

It makes a lot more sense than UA/US. United at least attempts to be a legitimate first-world airline. Continental offers an industry-leading product and boasts a remarkably satisfied customer base.

Star Alliance doesn't really have a place for the "reinventing sleaze" crowd that US aggressively courts.

and just how is a Los Angeles Socialite supposed to know so much about the Airline Industry?

Is that you Eva? The LAX Station Manager? :)

My name is Bobbie. I am not any station manager nor do I work in the airline industry. I'm a business owner, a wife, a mother, and a Christian. I certainly don't consider myself to be a socialite but you can call me what you wish. I don't work for US Airways. I have never worked for US nor any other airline. US used to work for me until I showed them the door. I am a very frequent flyer and made many friends while flying on AWA and US, some of whom I still maintain contact.

I was Platinum in FlightFund and Chairman's Preferred on US pre-merger. I flew AWA for my short runs out here and US for my transcons. I think I'm unique in that I'm intimately familiar with both operations as they were before the merger. When this merger was announced, I was very optimistic, but that optimism was met with lies, more lies, and total betrayal by the company to which I was loyal

Now that you've got my life story here, let's get the thread back on topic

It's all about the route network and feed opportunities. US still dominates the Eastern US and Caribbean more than any other *A carrier (including CO). They aren't going anywhere as long as their net financial contribution to *A is positive, which I tend to think it is. There's nothing wrong with having 3 domestic airlines in a global alliance. SkyTeam seemed to do just fine with DL, NW and CO. Now it'll just be DL once that merger is done.

Call me crazy but going on an airline thread to bash an entire airline that happens to be the main employer to a lot of ppl on this board....doesn't sound very christian-like to me.

You have every right to your opinion and I respect that as I and many here agree that this airline has it more than it's fair share of problems but to keep reiterating how US is garbage, courts a sleazy crowd, is sub standard etc. is somewhat unnerving to ppl like me who come to work everyday & do our job to the best of our ability everyday.

......signed a 30 year employee of this sub standard, garbage, sleazy airline.....

Right on! Oh and seems like I have to say it again, JUMP off. :)

I second that. And what business person uses vengenful, gloating verbiage with soap opera words like lies, lies and betrayal all over their posts. Everyone everywhere is disappointed in the merger results but it should be viewed as a business condition, especially by a business person, not a relationship.

I may be incorrect but you really do come off like the typical disgruntled employee that just got their furlough notice. Way too emotional a response even for a Frequent Flyer.

Either way, if you are a employee I am sorry and if you are a business owner I am glad that I do not avail myself of your product or services whatever they may be.

Go back to work and leave us alone. We appreciate anyone who wants to share information, fact or analysis or measured opinions of our situation but you really need to go to the cornfield and pray for us if you want to be of any help.

No notice here, at least not yet.

Try sinking well into 7 figures of your business' money into an airline over the years that treats customers like US treats theirs and talk to me about disgruntled. I'm downright livid at what's gone on and I apologize if the reality of the situation disturbs you. Your customers feel the pain just as bad as you do. Do you not think I read what you guys are saying? I know it's absolutely scandalous what they've done to you and the airlines you worked so hard to build. What started out as a team effort for the mutual benefit of everyone has turned into a party for the people at the top on the backs of the customers and the employees. It's no longer a "team" mentality at this airline. Everything I've seen and encountered indicates it's Us vs. Them and that's no way to build employee morale.

What makes it particularly disheartening were the years I enjoyed very good if not excellent service on both America West and US Airways, probably from some of you. For that, I thank you.

The only salvation of this airline will be a renewed commitment to customer satisfaction and is with that in mind that I choose to be vocal as to the gravity of the situation.

Don't you have anything better to do? How about volunteering for the Christian Children's Fund or better yet Los Angeles Mission. As someone said, that would be a lot more "Christian" than posting your personal Armageddon against US Airways. Don't worry about US Airways, they'll be fine.

Could it be that the Airlines are cutting flights backs and seats, that LH and the rest want more seat options open to them. If US, UA and CO all cut 7% of the seats available, wouldn't that make it harder for the International *Alliance members to get seats that they need? This should strengthen the *Alliance. With DL and NW merging they need more options in the U.S.

I'm not going to address your insinuation that I'm uncharitable. I spend in excess of 25 hours of my week in various charity work. It's not something I find optional in my life, being an active member of my community.

I am fully capable of tending to my civic obligations and I still find time to contribute to your community here since I joined recently. Please understand that I feel that US Airways defrauded me and continues to defraud people by their actions. They materially misrepresent their product. They want all the benefits of being a "real" airline but want to operate like they're RyanAir. They treat the employees like they're subhuman and continue to dance around like they're kings of the world. It's a fiefdom if you ask me and forgive me for being outraged.

Perhaps my seeing this from a customer perspective makes me overly harsh on the administration but I'm not one to stand idly by and watch customers and employees alike be taken advantage of. With that being said, I'll remain quiet and let you have your celebration of all things US. Forgive me for thinking contrasting points of view were welcome.

Perhaps you should ask yourself the same question? How many posts have you poured your little neurons into all the while your job and extensive "piloting" career is crumbling around you (again)? Take a look around for a change. A little self reflection can be enlightening. Peace.

Since US still does not exactly fit the description of LCC or legacy, I do not see where they are going to fit into the alliance. Neither UA or CO fly from my home airport, but I am willing to drive the two hours to use them on occasion and I will. That leaves DL/NW and US at my home airport and I am not feeling too positive about US, so I will probably stick with my SkyTeam choices from home. I wish I could feel confident in US.

I will tell you that in the frequent flyer forums, most everyone is jubilant that CO is joining Star Alliance and it appears they will become the carrier of choice for many elite flyers who have felt like US gave them the shaft.
