Posted because people were wondering if this route wouldn't come back, but it appears that it will be returning. CLT-SMF returns on June 02 on west metal. Also CLT-PDX is now on East metal, which also starts back on June 02.

Also of note, as of now and subject to change:

-The 2nd PHL-PDX flight will not operate; single daily flight resumes 05/10
-CLT-TUS will not return; service was suspended in Jan.
-PHL-YVR will not return; not too surprising as loads were never stellar last summer, but it was nice to see them give it a shot

I'm really surprised there isn't at least 1 daily CLT-SNA roundtrip. I'm sure they could shuffle around a slot or two to make that happen. SNA is typically a market that generates higher yield, so I'm puzzled as to why this city hasn't been connected to an east hub by now.

I agree. I have always wondered why since the merger, PHL-SNA and PHL-SJC havnt been announced.PHL-SLC as well.

As someone who works at SNA, I can not for the life of me understand why we dont have a PHL or CLT flight. The PHX flights usually do OK, but the 5 LAS mainline perform horribly. We routinely send out A-319/20s with 15 to 45 people throughout most of the week save Friday outbound and Sunday inbound. They are a total joke. An A319 or 757 could make it with out a weight penalty, so we are trying to figure out why they wont get creative and cut a couple of LAS flights for some CLT/PHL.

As a side note, the amount of connections that we see to and through PHL and CLT alone could easily support one flight to each and possibly more. If SMF and PDX can support those cities we certainly can.

From what little I know about SNA whomever governs the airport can pick and choose who and what routes can be flown.

If someone with better info could enlighten me I would appreciate the info.

When we did fly PIT then PHL to SNA, from what I understand (talking to agents) we could have filled 75s every time.

Also, apparently there were connecting flight timing issues that may have hurt our case with the airport authority.

Too bad.

There is no restriction to where an airline can fly out of SNA once they obtain a slot. There is a strict curfew. Takeoff curfew is 0700-2200 (ex Sun 0800-2200), landing curfew is 0700-2300. The County of Orange runs the airport and allocates slots to airlines based on who bids for them and what type of equipment they are planning to use. The slots are classified by how much noise the aircraft type generates over the sensors.

Once the slots are obtained (and we have 16 by the way), they can be used for any domestic US location and the flight can be scheduled at any time. At one time, HP flew from SNA to JFK, SMF, SEA and SFO in addition to PHX and LAS.

SNA-SMF lasted for years, but then WN started flying the route also..... We also tried SNA-RNO for a short time.

Every once in a while I'll see bags tagged as PHX-SNA-YYC(or is it YVR?), all supposedly on US. What's up with that?

Either misconnected checked bags that are being routed that way or a passenger making a connection to AC at SNA (or technically UA then to AC at SFO). Depending on time of day/day of week it could be cheaper to go via SNA.

Its US 242 to YEG, we usually have a few inbound connections, its SNA-LAS-YEG and since its a thru, LAS is not required on the bag tag. That flight is always empty so I guess internet sites sell cheap seats thru SNA to YEG on that flight. Last week we had passengers flying ELP-PHX-SNA-YEG (with 1 stop in LAS) Yikes!!

Ah, okay. That makes sense. Last week was when I saw those bag tags and they had me puzzled.

Going a little further back in time, we also flew SNA-SEA (737-300) and SNA-JFK (757-200). There was even an America West Phoenix Club in the John Wayne Airport back then. I think it has since become an Admirals Club for American Airlines.
