"Can I get your name"..."No, I don't give my name"

I certainly don't blame you guys at all. I personally would never want my last name displayed for public to see. Although, I think a first name is expected. I do note the names on the aprons, and I think that is actually a really classy touch...

I've seen Dick on the aprons, I personally think it's hilarious if their first names aren't Richards :) [To Richard the Mod, no disrespect intended ;)]

Oh wait....I mean great job getting them to change from regular frosty to vanilla frosty!!!

You know, I have to be honest, I just really wanted to take care of their frosty needs because I had my own special treat waiting for me to finish -- that situation was really cutting into my special treat enjoyment time. My snacky cake motivated me to hurry the heck up. Glad it worked out for everyone :)

I have no problems telling someone my first name. If someone is upset and wants my name, I will pull out a scrap piece of paper write down the date/flight number/and my first name and the position in which I was flying. I give it to them and tell them this is all the information the company needs to respond to your complaint. This pretty much lets them know I have no problems with them writing a letter.

Also, my company ID is NOT displayed on me inflight. My ID has been verified at TSA when I went through security, and by the agents prior to me boarding the aircraft. I do not believe the FAA requires passengers to verify our ID's. We do not verify passenger's ID once they are onboard the aircraft. TSA has done that.

To the poster who thinks they have a "right to know whose hands your life is in"....

You are quite correct, your life IS in the ENTIRE crews hands...pilots AND flight attendants...don't ever forget that. It may be that flight attendant that someone just chewed out over something that saves your life with the AED....or in some other CPR fashion.
The pilots duties speak for themselves.

You may rest assured, that between the company, the FAA, and the TSA...once those professionals are on the plane, they have been scrutinized as to their identity already, by all of the security measures this country has come up with to date. YOU, however, as a passenger, have NO such entitlements to identity...at all. PERIOD.

It has been stated how you may praise or criticize services rendered.

Have you considered that some freaks out there may have been working on some fake ID and simply need a full name and employee number to finish it up? With identity theft at alarming rates, and technical progress in counterfeiting, any and all measures should be taken to prevent any potential breaches of security...if you can't see that, then sharktooth is right.....WALK.

I have to disagree. Badges should be visible at all times. I have to admit I'm a bit concerned folks are this upset about having to wear a badge. I work in a less secure environment and are required to wear company-issued badges at all times. This is not as big of a deal as you're making it out to be.

Let's not forget that I've seen non-company personnel on planes that could easily be mistaken for crew on that flight. Displaying the badge eliminates any confusion.

Don't ground personnel have to wear their SIDA badges at all times?

(Update after original post, I just called my friend who works for the FAA in DC. He said I am correct that badges should be visible at all times while on duty.)
Was your "product" used to kill over 3000 innocent people recently?

Ours was.

End of discussion.

Use your cell phone to take a picture as you are deplaning if the FA is that nasty and you think the flight number and date of travel aren't enough to find that person. I did that to a US ticket agent once who was belligerent because it is harder to track them down. Or, offer an A&B...they'll give you as much personal information you want for one of those...I was never told they wouldn't give it to me when filling out those.

Sorry about that, folks. I forgot for a moment that I was logged in wearing my moderator hat. Oops.

Your "friend" does not know the issue and/or is wrong.

For instance, while transiting gates, in the airport area, badges are not required nor do they need be displayed any more than passengers who have also transited "security".

The only known circumstance as to displaying one's "badge" concerns ramp access, something you, as an unescorted passenger, are not privy to.

I think passengers should display their company ID's too. So when Mr. Important in 1C has a meltdown I can have the proper information to write a letter to HIS company condoning his bad behavior. Since passengers are representatives of THEIR companies there should be recourse BOTH ways....don't you think?? thumbup.gif

And when you pay our companies to do business with us, you are most definitely entitled to that information.

I can't think of any business where an employee has a right to be mean or miserable and then is not required to provide their name. And all this crap about security is just that.....crap. Me knowing that your name is Joe or Jean isn't presenting any security risk to you. It's just something the miserable people hide behind. And I would think that the other nice and professional F/A's on a flight wouldn't want a letter going to management saying how bad the 'female' F/A on flight #xxx was when they couldn't identify who the bad one was.

One thing though, and this goes for mean and nasty inflight and ground employees......most of your coworkers know you are miserable and will give out your name in a heartbeat to whomever asks. So if any customers really want to document a name to send a complaint, just ask another employee, you'll almost always get it.

I still think though that these Joes and Jeans are the minority (although more now than in the past) and that the majority still are nice and friendly. It's a shame that a few give the rest a bad rep. As bad as US treats it's employees, I commend most of the staff who still do try to provide good customer service and would hope that they aren't fingered for some bad behavior because someone couldn't get a name.

I do NOT, I repeat, I do NOT have to give you by Bar Number. You can call the Disciplinary Board and ask them to look it up by my first name and shoe size.
