CHARLOTTE, N.C. (TheStreet) -- US Airways' biggest union said it wants to be able to strike because its members are paid less than American (AAL_http://www.thestreet.com/quote/AAL.html) workers who do the same jobs, despite the two carriers' merger on Dec. 9.

The airline has said it wants to wait until mechanics and fleet servicehttp://www.thestreet.com/story/1253...ke-for-equal-pay-with-american-airlines.html# workers at US Airways and American have a joint contract before the work groups have the same wages and benefits. At US Airways, both groups are represented by the International Association of Machinists, while at American they are represented by the Transport Workers Union.

On Tuesday, the IAM will ask the National Mediation Board for a release from negotiations, which would trigger a 30-day countdown until the union would be free to strike. The IAM has been negotiating new contracts for the two groups since before their contracts became amendable 26 months ago on Jan. 2, 2012

parker is a hypocrite    what a buffoon   screw that donkey   time for the nmb to release us and 142 together

I have my doubts be I hope the NMB steps up and does what's right for once instead of just kicking the can down the road.

I hate to say it, but according to P.Rez (as he told us in the break rooms), but AH offered the same compensation as AA FSAs.  P.Rez has posted on the FSA thread it was a "bankrupt contract" AA was forced to accept and US FSAs want better before any discussions about a joint contract.  If I see P.Rez today, I will ask for a clarification or he can answer for himself in here, because even the AA contract would be an increase for US FSAs.

While I know that most would like to exceed the current hourly rate at AA, I can't see them going to that point. I think that getting an equal rate to AA is at least a starting point to go higher, but I just can't see that happening until we are all one with a joint CBA. Get us a wage increase, get us 2 years worth of retro pay, and go upwards from there.

AH offered the same wage but the scope outweighs the $$. He wants our scope period. He wants to just meld us into the TWU scope. Doesn't affect hubs so much but the smaller stations would be toast with the AA " Daily Qualifier ". To have to get insourced again we would have to have 20-21 flts a day ! Thats 140+ a week compared to our present scope of 85 to insource.
The big picture re scope is that if we fight to keep ours, then in joint talks , we fight again to keep it and meld AA into ours. That would allow insourcing at those AA stations that are presently outsourced possibly. With our scope staying of course........

They should be asking for UAL and DL wages. Asking for AA wages is setting your sights kind of low.
I agree, but its about the scope for the company. First things first. DL UA get paid more sure, but there is no scope there that protect smaller stations.  Fight for scope then together we fight for wages. What are they going to do? cut AA pay at integration transition? The Hubs will always go for pay first though. That is where we will have a battle.....

The worlds largest carrier should be paying the worlds highest hourly rate.
I dont disagree, but you can't collect wages if you are outsourced and don't have a job. Thats why scope is the most important. Things that were given yrs ago need to be reinstated...not just rolled over to a new bankruptcy contract. We deserve better!

Hey rockit,  Mike is right.  Grab the scope first, then attack the wages.  You see the company always knows that the majority of the ranks are always looking at the almighty dollar amount and not the "scope" or "working rules" which will directly affect your total compensation at the end of the month.  Example:  And I will use my company as an example as it has happened here many times.  Let's say SWA offers the contract of a life time, $100.00 per hour, unlimited OT, DT and TT.   But over in the work rules, scope, and or restrictive language it states something to the effect of;  Mechanics are restricted to 16-20 hours per week and no more."   Most the guys on the floor only sees the big raise number and falls all over themselves to get that hourly rate, not realizing they just voted themselves a pay cut, not a pay raise.  Just like pilots scope and work rules language, it all affects the final take home pay.  It is also the same as the company offering a 2.00 dollar an hour raise, yet they are also raising your bennies by 400.00 per month.  You in fact just voted in a pay cut of 80.00 bucks per month, but most only see the hourly rate increase.
