On count #1 the crime of thread creep I plead guilty your honor. Please sentence me to 47 years of retirement (the same # of years I paid Social security and all those other taxes. I must admit your post is an excellent recap!

Actually those representatives and staffers are given a waiver on many issues that you and I pay for. ACA is but a very small part of that. Our politicians have become part of the aristocracy and are much better that you and I. I'm not a fan of ACA but we have to realize that is only the tip of the iceberg. I wouldn't shut down the government over ACA when the bigger issue is that our elected reps (Dems and Rebublican) have put themselves above those they are supposed to represent. They should not have one thing more than the citizens they purport to represent. Their pensions should be no more secure than our pensions and their medical care should be the same as ours all the way to the presidency. If the government runs out of funds then why not do to their pensions the same as they allowed to be done to ours?

Perfectly put Bob, and fully agreed with here. A definite cliche reference, but remember that little embroidered amish piece on the wall, just to the left of the window of the "lunch line" in the literal school house in PIT? = "You get too soon old, and too late shmart"? ;) Such is sadly the human condition, without which limitations; people wouldn't so easilly subscribe to complete BS.

I'm thinkin' you've got something going with the gentleman's farm. The closer I get to being done with this, the more some respectable acreage, animals and even a "commie" tractor seem most reasonable indeed. To badly quote Lee Marvin's character in Paint Your Wagon: "I don't care where I am at the end of the day, as long as it's 200 miles ahead of "civilization". :)

Sigh!...I'm so sick of prissy, petty, and generally pathetic little advocates of socialism, or worse. See listings under: "cold, dead hands"...and here; I'd have thought a mighty "spartan" would have at least SOME understanding. ;)

PS: From your posting history; don't fantasize yourself to be "clever". Some of the most truly stupid "professional" people I've ever met were lawyers. Little more than an average chock's "IQ" is apparently needed for law school.

I'm thinkin' you've got something going with the gentleman's farm. The small farm allows us privacy if we want it and we grow, store,and can a lot of the veggies we don't comsume right away. We don't do this from economic necessity but from the satisfaction of knowing what goes into a lot of our meals. The hay we sell and we have 5 acres of trees in a water quality program for the Chesapeake Bay. Crazy Ivan the tractor helps with the farm chores and moves the snow in the winter.It is a lot of work but it's very satisfying work.

How many years until you retire?

Thanks for that link Trader. There is just something special about old airplanes even when they are just sitting somewhere. I always thought the perfect business would be an aircraft salvage, storage business.

Some are dumb, most are corrupted by power to their very core, and even more are ignorant or completely apathetic to the longer-term damage they are doing by implementing or not repealing programs and policies that are bankrupting our nation. Before Obamacare even does it's damage we have $125 Trillion in unfunded obligations, we are $17 Trillion in debt, and we keep spending $1 Trillion (give or take $500 Billion or so) annually more than we are able to collect. The last time we actually paid down the Federal Debt (actual decrease in the amount we owe) was in 1951 where we reduced the debt at that time by a whopping 1%. Since then, the past 62 years, our debt and our unfunded (unfundable liabilities) has grown by an average of 7% per annum. Over the past decade it has grown even faster than the 62-year average (though it was much worse in the 70's and 80's when D's had majority control over both judicial chambers through most of that time). R's are equally responsible for not fixing the out of control spending so they don't win any prizes either. If you look at a graph (I have one but can't figure out how to insert my own image on this site anymore) you'll notice an exponential explosion of debt that started in 2003 where went from $6 Trillion to now $17 Trillion or nearly a tripling of debt in 10 years. Another way to look at it was in 1980 our total accumulated debt was just under $1 Trillion (five decades worth of overspending) Now we over spend by that same $1 Trillion ever year. That's a level of fiscal irresponsibility in D.C. that is without equal in our history. Finally, let's go back to the $125 Trillion in future obligations. If we take in $2.5 Trillion in receipts, then if we allocated 100% of those to cover our unfunded liabilities under these social programs, then it would take 50 years just to rightsize that figure. However since we overspend not underspend each and every year, there's no way to fund our obligations, pay down our debt or get out of this mess with our current mentality.

No worries. We'll just raise the debt ceiling again later this month.

Its OK. Redistribution of wealth is much faster if you just balloon the currency and pass out the new money via exploding social programs to the poor who don't work at anything, except voting more than once.

And it also helps to put up fences around the WWII memorial, and stand down the border patrol. Illegals are welcome to come anywhere into the county accept there.

That sounds like a delightful enviornment Bob. I'm about at the point now when the first day that's not looking like any fun, but becomes a real chore to even imagine heading to work could be the last, otherwise; perhaps a couple of years yet. I'll miss the great folks I fly with and the fine view when it's done, which still keep me here.
